STEAM Learning Bins!
Funded Oct 2, 2019My class was ecstatic when they finally started working with the STEAM bins. The first day, I introduced the bins by explaining the different types of materials that they could use to explore and create different items. The students gasped as I opened each drawer with all these new supplies. They were eagerly asking questions and wanted to get started on this activity right away.
Students have two choices to create something new with STEAM materials. They can choose an item from the Creation Cards or they can complete the STEAM Quarter Challenge. Each quarter's challenge topic is related to a theme in Reading/Language Arts. Throughout this process, students also complete a worksheet where they are asked to imagine, plan, and reflect on their creations.
As the weeks have passed, my class is working more diligently so they can have time to work on their STEAM creations. My students are analyzing what materials they are using and realizing that it is natural for problems to arise throughout the design and creation process. They are also having collaborative conversations with each other to improve their designs.

Lights, Camera, Learn!
Funded Oct 12, 2017It was just a normal Wednesday afternoon when the new supplies arrived to my classroom. My students walked into math class and saw four huge, new boxes that were not there earlier. Immediately, all of the students started to ask questions excitingly. We began to open the boxes together. The smiles on their faces were unforgettable as they saw the new supplies.
Once all the supplies were organized and set up in the classroom, we began our new and improved center time! With our new learning palettes, file folder games, and math reproducibles, students began to not only become more engaged, but they were also able grasp the concepts easily. Now, our reading corner is filled with many different types of books that are motivating each student to READ!
We are so thankful for all the donated supplies. I will continue to use these books and other center activities with my future students. Thank you for helping my students feel like the stars that they truly are!”
