  • Three Teachers; One Room!

    I want to thank you again for supplying our classroom the ability to split in half. Students are able to focus on their lesson instead of being focused on the other groups. The students and I are able to use the whiteboard for solving problems and writing. The blue part helps us hang our objectives and work! Our exit tickets get thumbtacked there as well.

    The students thought the divider is fun. They love to take turns to writing on it, posting work, and even moving it around. They are impressed that a board could make a difference in their small groups. The best part is that it is double sided. Two groups on opposite sides and different lessons can work on their work.

  • Walls and Stalls that Inspire-Part 2

    I want to express a sincere and heartfelt thank you for all you did in helping us start our bathroom beautification project. The students had an important task of sorting the materials and deciding what they wanted to do with the bathrooms. They all gave their opinions and we outlined what we need and what had to be done. They were overly excited!

    We officially began on Thursday with the base paint. As other students were in the halls passing by, they were so happy with just the simple paint being put on the walls. We started with the girls bathroom and the boys were quick to state that they want a bathroom remodel too. Of course the end plan is to have all bathrooms in the building complete!

    I cannot wait for the project to be finished because I cannot wait to see their reactions. Such a simple task of changing up a bathroom will bring them happiness and pride. I am so happy to be part of this project and forever grateful to you for helping it come true! Thank you!!!”

  • Dreamers Become Readers

    We could never say thank you enough for this wonderful opportunity you have given us! My students are absolutely 'electrically ecstatic", as we say, about this wonderful chance to learn more at home! The school day is just not enough and they did not have the technology at home to be able to learn what they want to learn-English! The impact of just being able to communicate with their classmates and teachers is priceless. Technology is what helps our students learn today and prepares them for the real world.

    The students were most excited that the voice recorders looked like phones they suddenly got excited and confident because they could in some way relate to it. Once they hit play and heard my voice- the giggles and the happiness were out of this world. They could not believe that they were "taking my voice home". Students are truly into this project and ready to learn! Administration, parents, students, and I are just too thrilled!

    We had our meeting with parents to teach them how to use it as well. Parents were dedicated to sitting with their children and learn from the voice recorder as well. Students will get new recordings every two weeks. They are all into and excited to continue this great work. They promised to take care of their voice recorders so much! Thank you yet again and never enough for this opportunity! Dreamers are really becoming readers in no time! THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT AND FOR MAKING THIS HAPPEN!”

My students struggle with learning English with the current curriculum. They love when I am able to do small group work and we can read books that are easy to understand. They are able to pick up words easier and truly learn so that one day they will become able to understand the curriculum materials. Unfortunately they go home and do not hear or practice English. Becoming bilingual readers means they will always love Spanish and speak it but also do the same with English! They are so passionate about being bilingual-it has motivated me to seek funding for the project. I would do different things with the voice recorders. One thing is allow they to record the class discussion (especially when I am not present) so we can review it. Another thing is record guided reading books so they can go home and listen to the books. This will take away the guessing of how we pronounced the word in class.
