  • Resources Needed!

    Funded May 3, 2022

Thank so much for your generous donations to my classroom! The Teachers Pay Teacher gift card that I received has made a world of difference in my classroom! Teachers Pay Teachers is a website where other teachers put their lessons and activities for other teachers to purchase. There are so many creative ideas out there and it's so amazing that I get chance to explore and purchase them to use with my students.

I have created math challenge groups with resources I purchased as well as fun games to reinforce skills we have learned.

The dry erase markers are so important and we use them daily. Thank you again for your wonderful donations!”

  • Laptop for Lessons!

    Funded Apr 7, 2022

Thank you so much for your incredible donations. The new laptop I have received has made it so much easier to plan my lessons and bring new ideas to my classroom. Not only do I use my laptop planning and implementing lessons but I also use it to participate in virtual professional development. The professional development sessions that I have been able to attend allow me to bring exciting and interesting new ideas into my classroom.

My laptop connects very nicely to my Promethean board in school so I am able to project my lessons and have my students interact with with our board. My new computer has made it so much easier for me to plan and implement lessons. Thank so you so much for you wonderful donations and support of my classroom.”

  • Pencils for Days!

    Funded Apr 12, 2022

1,000 pencils!!! My students were in shock! "What does that even look like?" they asked. We go through pencils so quickly in our classroom. These pencils got us through the rest of our school year and started our new year off on the right foot. Our new pencil sharpener has been a lifesaver in helping to keep all of our pencils sharpened and ready for us to use. Without pencils, my students would not be able to complete their school work. Having so many pencils at our disposal helps elimate the constant looking and losing for our pencils. 1,000 thank yous for your donations in helping to keep my classroom running smoothly.”

  • Science Experiment Fun!

    Funded Feb 14, 2022

Thank you so much for your amazing donations. Since school is winding down for the year and we have a little more flexibility in our lessons, I was able to complete some science experiments with my class with the materials from this project.

The first experiment we did was called "Invisible Ink." We used a regular pen and the FriXion pens to write letters with hidden messages in it. Anything that was written with the FriXion pens will disappear with heat. I used the hair straightener as a safe heat source. When I did my demo for them, some of my students couldn't believe their eyes that the writing just disappeared from the paper. Each student got the chance to write their own letters and I used the hair straightener to erase some of their words. It was so cool. Then if the students take their letters home and put them in the freezer that writing will come back! How cool is that?!?!

Another experiment we did was using the magic fortune telling fish. The fish look like flat plastic fish until you lay them flat in your hand. The moisture and heat from your body cause the fish to move. On the package, it explains what the different movements of the fish mean, if you believe in the fortunes. Some of my students were a little freaked out by the fish because it seems to be moving on it's own. Others loved it and tried it on different parts of their body to see if it changes movements. All the students got to bring their fish home to share with their families.

I am so grateful that I got the chance to share these experiments with my students. I love doing science experiments with my class. I think it is very important that each child gets to participate in an experiment with their own materials and not just have one group experiment. Thank you again for your donations that allowed each child to participate and bring their experiments home.

Thank you for your continued support of my classroom!”

  • Wanted: Digital or Paper Resources to Challenge My Students!

    Funded Dec 1, 2021

Thank you so much for your amazing donations! The Teachers Pay Teachers gift card has been a huge help in my classroom! The website Teachers Pay Teachers is full of resources and lessons written and created by teachers. Having access to such a wealth of knowledge is amazing. People always say 2 heads are better than 1 and in this case many, many teacher heads are better than just mine.

The resources that I have gotten from Teachers Pay Teachers have challenged my students, provided support to those struggling, and have enhanced my lessons in fun and engaging ways. I have created a Friday math challenge group with the resources that I have been able to purchase. We have completed math and art projects using the resources that I have found. I was able to find step by step charts to teach subtraction and addition of 3 digit numbers. These visuals have made a huge difference in helping my students understand how to add and subtract.

Thank you again for your donations. Thank you for helping me make a difference in my students lives.”

  • Seeing the World Through a Poet's Eyes!

    Funded Jan 25, 2022

Thank you so much for your wonderful donations! The materials we received were a hit! Although the list of materials may have seemed strange: feathers, gems, q-tips, pencils, sunglasses, ziplock baggies, and glitter, we used them all! To kick off our poetry unit, we start by "putting" on our poet eyes aka sunglasses. This allows us to look at an ordinary stapler and see a shark chomping at us or a pair of scissors as a big eyed fish. My class then looks at all the materials we received and "sees" them with their regular eyes and then with their poet eyes. Then we write poems using what we see with our poet eyes.

I love teaching poetry to 2nd graders because it is a much more relaxed units. There are some rules in poetry but there is a lot more room for creativity. It's so much fun to see some of my students really let loose and to see their own writing voice begin to shine through when we write poetry.

The books we received allows my students to be exposed to mentor poets. We look through these books to find strategies and craft moves that we want to try out in our own poems. The books are part of our classroom so my students have a chance to take them to their desk and explore them individually.

Thank you again for your donations. I am so grateful for the chance to continue to bring poetry into my classroom.”

  • Help Us Express Our Creativity With Painting Supplies!

    Funded Dec 30, 2021

Thank you so much for your amazing donations! The art supplies have been such a blessing in our classroom. We recently got the opportunity to zoom with photographer Angelica Doss. We learned about her artwork and then she showed us how to use primary colors to create our skin tones.

We used the paints and art supplies to mix the primary colors to paint the background of our portraits. The backgrounds matched our skin tones and then my students will draw their portraits on top. It was such an amazing experience and we are so lucky that we had the supplies we needed to participate.

These supplies will allow my students to express themselves in a different art medium than crayons and markers. We are looking forward to spending more time creating art this year. Thank you again for your wonderful donations and for keeping art alive in my classroom!”

    Mrs. Meyers

  • Help Us Explore the World of Nonfiction!

    Funded Dec 17, 2021

Thank you so much for your donations! The Gail Gibbons and National Geographic books were a huge hit in my classroom! The National Geographic books are amazing! They have so many incredible pictures. The facts are wonderful. The books are so engaging for my students.

The Gail Gibbons books are written in a different way then the National Geographic books but are just as engaging and interesting to my students. Gail Gibbons uses drawings and a story written to include nonfiction facts. I love that I have the chance to show my students two different types of nonfiction books. It is important that my students are exposed to different types of nonfiction books so that they understand exactly what a nonfiction book is and can identify the different genres. Thank you again for the wonderful donations. These books will help my students become better nonfiction readers. Thank you for supporting my classroom and keeping the reading alive in my room.”

  • Basic Supplies Help to Keep the Learning Alive!

    Funded Nov 30, 2021

Thank you so much for your wonderful donations! The supplies we received were met with cheers from my students! Every student got a new dry erase board to use. The old ones that we had were stained and had scratches on them. My students were so excited to use the new boards. The markers are amazing. They have their own little eraser with them so my students aren't using paper towels to clean their boards with.

The pencils are always a necessity in our classroom. We go through many pencils in a day. I am not sure what happens to them. The erasers on our pencils always disappear before the pencil is done as well. The pink erasers were the perfect solution. We use the post-its to keep track of characters as well as help us retell the books we are reading. We use them to create charts so that all students get a chance to respond to a prompt.

We are always in need of paper towels. We are so lucky that we have a sink in our room and are able to wash our hands throughout the day. We do get paper towels from the school but sometimes we need some that are a bit stronger. We eat breakfast in our classrooms as well and sometimes we need a tough paper towel to help us clean up the mess.

Thank you again for your support. All of the supplies are greatly appreciated and help to keep my classroom running smoothly. Thank you again!”

  • "Too Hard, Too Easy or Just Right" Books!

    Funded Oct 21, 2021

Thank you so much for your donations! The new books were a huge hit! I mainly ordered books that were on an I/J reading level, which is what a majority of my students were reading on. These books doubled the size of our I/J reading basket and gave my students some much needed new books to read.

My students were so excited to dive into these new books. One of my students said that she "couldn't believe that people who have never even met us gave us these books!" It was so exciting to see my students get just as excited as I do when they get new books. I am so happy to report that due to my students have books that were on their reading level, they have now moved up more reading levels and are right where they need to be in 2nd grade.

Thank you again for your wonderful donations and for keeping the reading alive in my classroom.”
