  • We Love Writing!

    Funded Jan 11, 2023

I can't thank you enough for your incredible generosity. My students were thrilled when I showed them their new writing journals! We filled a whole journal from the first day of school to the middle of the year. When we came to the end of that journal, students were so upset about the possibility of ending their "morning writing". Each morning students come into a silly photo on the board. They are asked to write a sentence about the photo. The progress I have seen from September until now is remarkable. Some students went from writing a few letters to now multiple sentences. This is something I will continue to do throughout my teaching career as the results have been astonishing. Thank you for fostering a love of writing that will hopefully last a lifetime!”

  • Recess Fun for All

    Funded Oct 1, 2022

We can't thank you enough for your generous donation to our school! What a difference quality recess materials make! The kids are engaged and excited to learn new team-building games. We are also anticipating fewer negative behaviors during recess as we have more structured activities. Another positive outcome has been more focused students in the afternoon thanks to them getting all that built-up energy out. The kids love learning new games and have enjoyed being part of a team during these activities. When we introduced the new materials one student even said, "This is the best day of my life!" the best part is that, not only will your donation impact this year's students but students for years to come!”

  • The "Write" stuff!

    Funded Sep 20, 2022

Thank you so much for your generous donation to my class! My students LOVE their new sight word journals. It is so motivating to have your own workbook vs. photocopies! We use our mini dry-erase boards and rocket erasers daily to review new sight words! We also use our writing journals every morning to write a silly sentence about a photo writing prompt. This is the favorite part of their day. I am so excited to give send these journals home at the end of the year to show how much progress they have made since starting! We are so grateful for your donation!”

  • Word Work Centers

    Funded Aug 12, 2021

I can't thank you enough for your generous donation. My students have such significant learning gaps due to being remote for so long during ht pandemic. The learning centers have provided them opportunities to not only use their hands to learn sounds but to work TOGETHER, something they haven't been able to do for so long.

Each day we start ELA with a whole group lesson. Then the students start their center rotations. Thanks to your donation, the kids BEG to do the word work and phonics centers.

My favorite center is the Alphabet letter tubs. We do the Orton Gillingham program in class and this is an amazing supplement to that curriculum. When I introduce a new sound, I use the tub to reinforce the concept. The kids LOVE closing their eyes to reach into the tubs to pick the objects that start with the specific sound.

Thanks to you, my students have made amazing progress in their spelling and reading skills! I am so excited to continue to watch them grow this year.”

  • Listening Center for Learners

    Funded Oct 11, 2019

Thank you so much for the very generous Listening Station donation. Your generosity has made a huge impact on my classroom. Not only do students love to listen to books on tape but this gives me an opportunity to work with students one on one to work on individual goals. The students are thrilled when they come in and see that we have "Listening Station" as one of our ELA centers that day. My goal as a teacher is to instill a lifelong passion for reading and this is one of the building blocks to develop that.”

  • Alphabet Activity Rug

    Funded Aug 8, 2019

I can't begin to tell you how much of an impact your generosity has had on my class this year. Not only does our new alphabet rug add some much-needed color to the 60-year-old room, but it adds smiles to everyone who walks in.

The students absolutely love being able to have their own spot each morning to sit on and they are able to use the rug as a reminder of letter-sounds throughout the day. We have incorporated some really fun activities using the rug.

When I say a sound the student has to sit on the corresponding letter. We do the same for the beginning and ending sound practice. These are my favorite activities because they are silent (what teacher doesn't love that?) and the kids get gross motor breaks by being able to move around.

Thank you again for your donation. My students and I are so grateful!”

  • PoundFit Ripstix for Afterschool Program

    Funded Nov 11, 2016

For the past 2 months my after school students have been doing POUND with home-made wooden dowels. These students STILL loved every second of it! I can't even put into words how excited these kids were when they saw the new bag of REAL Ripstix. For these children, the thought that a stranger could care THIS much about them was truly life changing. In the days after receiving the donation, we were doing a social skills lesson on "paying it forward" and how random acts of kindness can impact many people along the way. One student lit up and said, "Like when the strangers bought us Ripstix and I was happy all week. That made my teachers happy and since my teachers were happy, they probably made lots of other kids happy! All thanks to the Ripstix donors!" It was one of those moments when I truly appreciate my job. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you! It has been 3 months and POUND has not lost its appeal to these kids. They still light up when I bring out the bag of sticks. You have helped change their thoughts of exercise, ,music, generosity and paying it forward.”

  • Miss C's Class Takes on the New England Aquarium

    Funded Apr 19, 2016

    Dear Donors,

I can't even describe the excitement on my students' faces when I told them our trip to the Aquarium was funded. Most of my students do not have any means of transportation, live in poverty and have never even left the city they grew up in! Your generosity opened a door that had always been locked for them.

After the field trip there were numerous quotes that filled my heart with humility as they exclaimed that that was "the best day of their entire life!" It's days and experiences like this that truly make me LOVE what I do each day. Giving these kids the motivation and drive to want to learn as much as possible is why I teach. Thanks to you, these kids just learned more in one day than they could all year in a science classroom! From the bottom of my heart, I want you to know how much we appreciate your kindness.”

  • Reading Takes You Places

    Funded Mar 19, 2016

A few months ago I let one of my students come with me to the school's book closet to chose our next guided reading text. I figured my choices were not much of a hit with my young readers.

The student took a shot on a book he'd never heard of before, The Land of the Lost. From the first page, it was an instant hit in our class. Students were begging me to continue reading into our recess time, they were going home to ask their parents for more books from this series and simply couldn't get enough.

This new interest in reading sparked an amazing phenomena in my classroom: students were EXCITED about reading. I can't begin to express the joy I felt when, almost overnight, all of my students became "readers."

Your donation was the best gift they could ask for. As soon as I announced our project was funded, I was asked daily to check the tracking for our delivery date. We plan on starting our next guided reading after April vacation and the my students literally have a countdown for the next Land of the Lost book.

My students and I thank you from the bottom of our hearts and truly appreciate your generosity in making their wish come true.”

Our students are 3rd and 4th graders in an Emotionally Impaired Special Education classroom. The needs of our students range from a variety of social, learning, and behavior based disabilities that have placed them on many different academic levels from Kindergarten through 5th grade. While our elementary school is supported by the community, it is a small part of a large urban inner-city school system and can not fund the specific necessary enrichment items of each class in all of our schools across the city.
