Our advisory-latin name: Ingenium Plura, is a group of 9th grade students who love adventure, but lack the resources to travel outside of the Bronx. The South Bronx community is one of the poorest in the nation, and most students are from the surrounding housing projects. The students are smart, lively, and creative. They love learning new things and diving into activities that challenge their minds and lift their spirits. Bronx Latin School focuses on knowledge building through inquiry and exploration. Throughout the day, the students attend their classes, and for about 30 minutes out of the day, they must attend advisory (a homeroom of sorts). They are required to spend this time reading their own individual books. We decided we wanted to read a book together as a group. Students took a vote by genre. Horror, fantasy, and science fiction received the highest votes. The story 'Coraline' was chosen. Unfortunately, the school couldn't afford to purchase the books this school year.
