My Students Need Class Sets of Engaging Books
Funded Aug 15, 2024I’m deeply grateful for your support in helping us acquire three class sets of diverse and engaging literature for my students. Your help will make a huge difference in my students’ learning, growth and lives this year and in years to come.
I am thrilled and can’t wait to teach the books. I’m certain that my students’ reading will be filled with learning, growth and engaging discussions that will nurture critical thinking, compassion and understanding.”

This classroom project was brought to life by The Gates Foundation and 27 other donors.Class Set of There There by Tommy Orange
Funded Mar 31, 2024Reading There, There by Tommy Orange made a huge impact on my students as was evident in their essays and responses to the book. Students were highly engaged and we had deep and meaningful discussions on generational and historical trauma connected with the characters and plot of There, There. Students also made deep connections to their own lives, the impact of alcoholism and generational trauma.
Students also noted how some of the characters were trying to break the cycle of violence and create betters lives for themselves, their families and community. I think this gave them hope.
There, There by Tommy Orange was such a great book and I'm glad my students had a chance to read the book and it was thanks to donors like you. Thank you so much for supporting our youth and making sure they have the books and literature they need to learn and grow.”

Bad Indians by Deborah Miranda
Funded Dec 10, 2019My students and I are profoundly grateful for your support and generous donations that make it possible for them to take a copy of Bad Indians home to read and analyze. Having their own copy of the book to take home will give them the necessary time to fully read the book and deepen their understanding. This means so much to us! Thank you for supporting the youth in learning the true history of the land on which they live, and thank you for supporting indigenous voices of the land.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Chuc
