Calculating our Future!
Funded Aug 21, 2022Simple technology such as the calculator engages students in the world of math. Knowing that they don't need to worry about primary calculations to get to answer a multi-step problem keeps them motivated and focusing on the process and the word problems. They also use the calculator to check their work. The calculator can also be used in a game to practice multiplication tables.
Our 6th graders are not expected to use calculators until 7th grade, hence having them available now will help them be familiar with how to use a calculator in the future. With this tool, students are able to figure out their grade percentages on assignments and they feel in control. Students use the calculator when determining how much change they should receive when buying snacks at the deli as well. This begins to form their early financial literacy skills.
We have students who have an IEP (Individualized Educational Plan) who are able to use the calculators in other areas. Some may be able to use a calculator as part of their accommodations during class and on classroom tests. The use of a calculator provides a bridge for them to be able to feel successful in math, they are able to use calculators to support their early fluency skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division) which they struggle to do independently. The calculator helps them gain the confidence to solve those simple calculations without a teacher's support, and since each student is provided with one, they will not feel singled out or different than their peers.
Thank you for your support in my classroom this school year!”

Funded Sep 3, 2020Thanks to your generous donations my classroom has had its air purifier running since the first day of school, a week prior to students returning in person. With two groups (cohorts) of students in my room each week (3 days / 2 days) the air purifier and filters have been an essential part of our safety and piece of mind through this very unique and uncertain school year.
When students first saw the air purifier under our smart board they were confused as to what it was. Myself and my co-teacher explained how the purifier cleans the air and how it can help us all stay safer. The students, who are only 7, really enjoyed learning about how the purifier has the colors on the display to let us know our air quality. They would alert each other to how the air in our classroom was throughout the day.
I am pleased to report that our classroom takes COVID-19 protocols very seriously, our students are very conscious of hygiene and what could put others at risk. To date, our school building has been closed and reopened a handful of times when there are multiple cases in our building, but our classroom has been kept healthy despite all of that.
It is because of donors like you that myself and my students are able to feel much more secure in our learning space and know we are taking control of what we can and looking out for each other's hea”

Amazing Stations!!
Funded Dec 20, 2018It is with overwhelming gratitude and appreciation that I submit this impact letter to you to thank you for your kindness and willingness to give, toward my "Amazing Stations!!" project.
With your help, I have been able to make my math and literacy stations more exciting, easy to use, and durable for the students in my 12:1+1 K/1 special education classroom. The various colored paper helps engage student attention in the station they are working in. As I update and add new stations, I can use varied colors to continue to stimulate and engage my students. The paper cutter, laminator, and laminating sheets help me to prepare stations that are durable and can be used over and over again by all of my students.
I have also created a take home version of our snap word literacy station for each student in my classroom, so that they would be able to continue their learning with support at home just as their learning is supported within my classroom.
Thank you again for your generosity and support of my students. I look forward to seeing the continued engagement and growth in my students every day because of your support of my project.”

Ms. Choinski
