  • Hands-On Healing and Heritage: Art, SEL, and Natural Hawaiian Dyes

    Funded Jun 6, 2025

Thank you so much for supporting art, social emotional learning, and cultural appreciation in our 4th grade classroom! I am so excited to share these projects and supplies with next year's students! Engaging hands-on learning activities like these are a great way to enrich student learning and enhance student achievement. Mahalo for your generosity!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Ching

  • Collaborative Problem Solving with Building Thinking Classrooms

    Funded Mar 11, 2025

The arrival of the rolling whiteboards was a source of major excitement for my students! Replacing our worn out materials with brand new whiteboards helps my class readily engage in visible, collaborative thinking while tackling challenging tasks in small groups huddled around these vertical workspaces. The ability to easily move the whiteboards fosters a fluid classroom layout, encouraging spontaneous collaboration and peer-to-peer learning. As I circulate, I can quickly glance at the diverse approaches students are taking, identify areas of struggle or brilliance, and provide targeted support without disrupting the flow of their collective problem-solving. This shift has empowered students to take greater ownership of their learning, fostering deeper conceptual understanding and a more vibrant intellectual atmosphere.

My students and I are actively integrating these whiteboards into our learning routines. For instance, during our current unit on engineering, the students selected a common classroom object, determined whether it was an example of a technology or not and identified problems that it solves. Then they collaborated as a group to use creative thinking to brainstorm ways their object could be improved in some way. Thank you for supporting problem solving and collaboration in our classroom!”

    With gratitude,

  • Cultivating Amazing Artists and Life-Long Learners!

    Funded Oct 18, 2024

Thank you so much for your support! We learned about the island country of Palau and a unique form of art they use to capture their history called a Palauan Storyboard. Thanks to your donation, we were able to use oil pastels to create our own version of a Palauan Storyboard using elements such as bold colors, simple shapes, a black and white geometric patterned border. Each student's art focused on depicting one (or more!) of the theories of Human Migration to Hawaii.

Keeping in the same artistic vein, we used the canvases to create beautiful cityscapes that will be holiday presents for our families! For all of the students, it was their very first experience painting on a canvas and many of them shared that they can't wait to try it again!”

  • Student Voice and Student Choice!

    Funded Sep 28, 2024

Thank you so much for your support! The students were so excited to see the Amazon boxes arrive! They love using the new voice amplifiers. It has been terrific to be able to hear each other clearly, especially when giving oral presentations!

The wiggle seats have made a big difference for a handful of my students who struggle with maintaining focus and attention. Opportunities for movement make a big difference and the wiggle seats allow just the right amount of movement they need so they don't resort to tipping back and forth in their chairs. Definitely a big plus for safety!

My students cheered when we unpacked the new sets of graphic novels! Now, rather than waiting for the few copies in our class library that always seem to be checked out, they can take turns reading our class sets!”

  • Olena Dyed T-shirts and New PE Equipment!

    Funded Feb 17, 2024

Our 'olena-dyed t-shirts were a hit! The students loved this hands-on experience that allowed them to gain a true understanding of how 'olena was used as a natural resource in old Hawaii!

The new PE equipment helped my students practice and refine their gross motor skills while also providing opportunities to practice collaboration and communication skills. Getting their bodies moving in fun and engaging ways also helped build their commitment to regular exercise and a healthy lifestyle!

Thank you again for your generous support of learning in our classroom!”

  • Building Our Flock of Hummingbird Robots!

    Funded Sep 12, 2023

These resources have been an awesome way to extend students' basic coding skills. They could barely contain their enthusiasm when they heard about all the different types of projects we could try out using the new Hummingbird kits. In particular, they were excited to realize that they could use the Servo motors to actually build a robot that could move, similar to ones they had seen (and remotely controlled) during a virtual coding experience. We sincerely appreciate your generosity in making this opportunity available to our class!”

  • Engagement, Expression, Excitement!

    Funded Nov 19, 2023

The students are loving their new supplies! With your generous support, the students have been getting their creative juices flowing! We used the oil pastels to create artwork in the style of Palauan Storyboards to show what they learned about the theories of human migration to Hawaii. We also created nighttime cityscape paintings that the students gifted their families over the winter holidays.

Students have also been having fun strengthening their bodies and working on our agility and gross motor skills using the agility rings and the vests have been a great way help keep team sports organized!”

  • Project Based Learning...Here We Come!

    Funded Aug 3, 2023

Your generous donations have made such a difference for my students! They were so excited when they heard we received a donation of new project supplies!

The clipboards have helped make the students' work more portable, so they have the flexibility of working at different locations around the classroom (and school!). They absolutely love meeting up with a partner to share ideas and get feedback. They also enjoyed a flower scavenger hunt around the school where they sketched different types of flowers found on campus and then diagrammed their parts.

We are also looking forward to breaking out the glue guns later this quarter when we begin our unit on navigational skills and create a map tool inspired by Marshallese stick charts.

Thank you again for your generosity and support!”

  • Cultivating Problem Solvers Through After-School Lego Robotics!

    Funded Jun 20, 2023

Our Lego Robotics team is LOVING the new robotics kits! The additional robots have significantly reduced the amount of time students spend waiting to test their code, which gives them more time to work on designing and refining their programs!

Last year was our rookie season and this year's "veterans" have been showing our new members the basics about how to maneuver the robot. Next, they will be moving on to figuring out our team's approach to accomplishing this year's missions and preparing for the upcoming tournaments.

Thank you so much for your generous donation to support our Lego Robotics at our school!”

  • Flexible Thinking, Flexible Seating!

    Funded Mar 5, 2023

Thank you for your generous support! The students were so excited when our new supplies were delivered to our classroom! The new lap desks allow more students to take advantage of flexible seating options during full class instruction and small group work. Students with "scratchy" microphones were happy to get replacements so everyone can hear their "real voice". Some of the most popular items were the volleyball and disc cones. We certainly made good use of them at PE and recess, both to strengthen our bodies and improve our teamwork skills!”

The past 2 school years were disrupted due to the global pandemic. This year students will be returning to full face-to-face instruction. Some COVID mitigation measures like open-window ventilation, social distancing and masking can make it challenging for students (and me!) to hear each other during lessons and discussions. Voice amplifiers will guarantee that everyone's voice is heard. This is essential to ensure that students are able to express their ideas and give and receive feedback. By donating to our project, you will be supporting student learning, communication and collaboration.
