  • Literacy is the key to our diverse community!

    Funded Mar 7, 2018

Mahalo nui loa for your generous donations! Although it took a long while to get the items that I requested our students will benefit greatly from it. In this time of need and during the scare of the hurricane that is approaching, these items could not have come at a better time! When everything is set up our students will be able to work on educational apps, do research, and learn different skills and strategies that will help them to become successful readers. Of course, the most exciting product that came in was the iPads. I should have them up and running so that that the students are able to enjoy them! One of the iPads will be used for a student with hearing impairments. We are able to download specific apps that will allow him to communicate effectively with his peers and other adults. Once again Mahalo, mahalo, mahalo for all of you contributions! It is greatly appreciated!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Caravalho

This classroom project was brought to life by The First Million Fund and 13 other donors.
These materials will make an enormous difference in the lives of my students because it will assist them with the literacy skills they need to master in order for them to progress throughout their education. There are no computers in my classroom, due to the lack of funding available to small schools. The iPads will be a great asset, so that my students will be able to interact with various content based apps and to also be connected to the world around them. The other materials, such as Scholastic News and Reading Comprehension Cubes, included in this project will aid in their literacy development. Most students in my classroom are 2-3 grade levels below their actual grades having these items will greatly enhance their learning.
