Scholars will use chart paper, markers and crayons to give presentations to the entire class about important mathematicians of color and their contribution to the mathematical field. It is important for me to educate my scholars about the people behind the math concepts we will study as well as showing them mathematicians that share their background. I am requesting a series of materials that will be used during team work and independent time which will focus on multiplication, division, and order of operations by playing games that help them practice these skills. I am also requesting a series of materials such as individual whiteboards that will provide scholars with the opportunity to participate in classroom activities by holding up their answers. While students are working on their independent work, I am working with small groups of scholars that need more support than others. While I am teaching my small groups, the other scholars in my classroom are working independently on their classwork/homework as expected while using their pencils, sharpeners, and lined paper to do their work. I would love to give my scholars new books to feed their love of learning! Having all of these materials in my classroom will help my scholars practice important skills such as cooperation, listening, understanding, etc. Your support will help lay the foundation needed in mathematics so that they have a successful 6th grade school year.
