Document the Change
Funded Jul 15, 2017Having this doc camera has flipped how I am able to teach in the classroom. Students are now able to see a more up-close view of the assignments that they are working on. Having a visual aid of where they should be allows them to follow along. This has helped my students stay on track and focus on the task at hand.
My students are most excited about when they are able to come up to the camera and lead the class in an activity. It is important that they play these leadership roles so that they know they are an important piece of their learning environment. The students also enjoy following other students and supporting them when it is their turn to come up to the doc camera and lead the discussion.
Your donations helped create camaraderie and boost focus in learning in my classroom. I cannot thank you enough for your continued support.”

Extra! Extra! Let's Read All About It...
Funded Mar 9, 2017These magazines have brought the world into the four walls of my classroom. We have been able to discuss world travel, politics, and civil rights issues- all at the first grade level thanks to these magazines. This would not be possible without our "tee-eff-kays" (a.k.a. TFKs, TIME for Kids) as my students call them.
With these magazines, we have also been able to take a look into what credible media literature looks like. The students have learned about telling facts from opinions, all while diving into topics that interest them. Yes, they may be but 6- and 7-year-olds, but they have so much to offer when we give them the opportunity to expand their horizons.
To all of you I say THANK YOU. You have contributed in helping mold my students into well rounded individuals who are on track to being active participants in the world around them. My little ones would also like to say, "thank you people from the Internet", for helping us get our magazines that we learn so much from.”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Cavalieri
This classroom project was brought to life by News Corp and 3 other donors.Books Needed for Hungry Bookworms
Funded Feb 20, 2017Where do I begin? These books have been a blessing to my classroom. The look on my student's faces when we opened the box of ONE HUNDRED THIRTY-EIGHT books is a moment I will never forget. These books have impacted my classroom in more ways than one. First of all, having new books has motivated my students to read more and work towards their individual reading goals. Since receiving these books, fourteen of my students have reached 100% of their reading goal (six of those having reached it for the first time this entire school year), eleven of them have reached 50% or more of their goal, and the rest have reached 25% or more. For some of my students, this is the first time that they have reached any percentage of their goal at all.
Besides encouraging individual reading, these books have allowed me to have resources to supplement my lessons. For example, we are going to be starting a unit on inventors and now I have books on Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Edison, and more to help give further information to my students on these historical figures.
Before these books came into the class, "individual reading time" sounded like more of a chore to my students. Now, their faces light up and I find myself having to find ways to get them to put the books down. However, I will gladly choose that battle over the latter any day. We appreciate it more than you may ever know.”
