  • It's A Colorful Life!

    Funded Mar 29, 2017

Thank you so much for giving to our project. Our new color printer has brought so much color to our everyday projects. Shortly after the printer arrived, we started an artist study on the work of Vincent van Gogh. I was able to print out and display pictures of his art so we had our own gallery in class. The students were so excited that they got their own picture of Van Gogh's "Starry Night" so they could closely study and try to recreate the movement found in his paintings. After viewing Van Gogh's painting and practicing, the students created their own version of his famous works to display at our school's Night of the Arts. Many of the kids were so inspired that they started bringing me pictures from home of their "short stokes, circles, and swirls" that they had practiced on their own!

I am the only teacher on campus that has a color printer in their classroom. I have been able to share this wonderful resource with many other teachers and staff on campus which increases the impact of this project. Thankfully, the printer you helped provide for us is an ink tank printer which means that it costs just a fraction-of-a-cent per print. Better still, it came with enough ink for 2 years worth of printing, approximately 11,000 black and 8,500 color pages! Your generous donation has helped to make my students lives more colorful and will continue to do so for many years to come.”

    With gratitude,

  • Differentiated Classroom

    Funded Dec 9, 2015

Thank you for the wonderful gifts you have given to my current and future students. When I told them that our project had been fully funded they were so excited! I told them that even though Kia is a really big company, they picked our class to donate to because you believe in them. The day the first boxes arrived they were amazed! Some cheered, others gasped, one asked, "all of that stuff is for us?" They couldn't wait to use all of the new materials.

After receiving the materials, I created new intervention groups. For the next six weeks, for an hour a day, we used our new materials to work on sight words, close reading, spelling and writing. After the six week period 89% of my students improved their writing, sight word recognition as well as their reading levels! After the post-test results were in, my kids were bursting with pride and could hardly wait to tell their parents. They cheered for each other when their individual accomplishments were shared with the whole school during morning announcements.

Now, with only three months left in the school year the students have made new end-of-year goals. I redesigned intervention groups to match their current levels and goals. My students are eager to take on the last trimester and see how far they can go. Thank you for investing in my students and in my classroom!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. C.

I have 52 wonderful and energetic 1st graders in 2 groups. My kids enjoy reading and they are beginning to love writing too! They love to be active, dance and sing. They can be very silly and always laugh at my terrible jokes. They love to give hugs and drawings to show how much they care. I want them to have the best because they are the best! However, only 4% of my students started this year at grade-level in reading. Ours is a Title 1 school in a low-income area. 95.8% of our students are from families living far below the poverty line. 60% of our students are English language learners. I have a classroom full of eager learners with tons of potential. The items that I'm requesting will help me unlock this potential and stimulate their imaginations. I try to instill in my students that education is the key to a better life and that by becoming great readers and writers, each of them can do great things!
