MASS-tering Density Calculations
Funded Nov 4, 2023I wanted to take this time to express my heart-felt thank you for you generous donation to our class project. Students are able to use these much needed scales to take accurate mass readings, and apply them in the lab. They recently ran an experiment where they have to determine the density, and therefore material, of a sample of the King of Sicily's crown to determine in the goldsmith had cheated the King. Turns out, the sample was made of brass! Students had so much fun with this lab, and being able to continue having these hands on learning experiences is all thanks to you and your generosity.
Please continue to support classrooms and teacher projects like this one, because the education and inspiration we try to provide these young kids are the best investment we can make in society.”

The Bare Necessities
Funded Aug 15, 2023Your generosity has allowed me to purchase all the the necessities I needed to start my year off strong. We got basic classroom and art supplies, such as glue sticks, which has helped my 8th graders organize their notebooks with glue in diagrams each day. They also use the highlighters to help their glossary terms stand out in their notebook. These two tricks have helped them so much with visual association and vocabulary retention, and we are all so appreciative.
The markers help me create daily manipulatives for classroom activities, such as creating paper-plate Venn Diagrams for students to separate their observations and inferences during a lab activity. And the scissors and pom-poms allow students to create models of atoms for an assigned element.
We are so grateful to you for your support of our classroom and day to day objectives. I could not carry these lessons out as regularly as I do without the help of generous donations, and I hope you will continue to support classroom projects in the future, because it's making a HUGE difference.”

Funded Nov 29, 2022In the next two weeks, students will be preparing for their Living Environment Regents by performing this mixtures lab. They are really nervous about the test, and I am hoping these materials will not only help them better understand the topic so they are prepared for the rigorous nature of the exam, but also allow them to have fun preparing for it. Science is meant to be about enjoyment and discovery, and having hands-on learning experiences to supplement our curriculum is so important for keeping them engaged, especially as the warm weather and summer break draws near.
Thank you so much for your generosity in getting us these needed materials. We are all so grateful.”

Funded Dec 19, 2022My students just kicked off their Nervous System Unit. They are ultimately learning about neurological and neuromuscular disorders and developing apps to help improve the quality of life of people living with particular conditions. Their pitch day is coming up on May 8th, and we are so exciting for them to present their ideas and depth of knowledge which dissecting these brains will contribute to. Every year, this lab leaves a lasting impact on them as they discover the roles of each lobe of the brain, as well as how similar other mammals are to humans.
Only thanks to your generosity, this experience can happen. So, THANK YOU.”

Funded Jan 12, 2022I cannot express my gratitude enough for the generous donation you made to our classroom project. The students have just entered an expedition called "Cities" where they are learning about the biodiversity in our Queens community. They will be using clay in art class to learn how to sculpt local species, and later will be using the clay in science to invent their own organisms.
I am so excited to dive into this project and I know the kids are going to have so much fun. Sculpting is a skill that many are never exposed to in the digital age we live in, and so it's exciting to bring these skills to our students in 2022.
We could not make this vision a reality without your contribution and caring about our students' learning this year. Their experience of school has been shaken by the chaos of the pandemic and school closures, and bringing fun back into the classroom is exactly what they need to reignite their curiosity and passion for learning.”

Funded Jan 3, 2022I can't express my gratitude enough for our brand new classroom printer. It's already been so helpful and has made my life so much more convenient, when, in t he midst of a lesson, I realize I need to print something off for a student. Recently, we were learning about sound waves and how some animals have heightened hearing (like owls) while others use waves' property of reflection to echo locate (like bats). Students did research on local species of owls, dolphins, whales, bats etc. that use sound waves on their "Quest for Food" (our case study name). Take a look at our photos to see their poster-projects on these NYC species, which they used the printer to create!
Thank you so much again for your generosity!”

Teaching BRAINiacs!
Funded Dec 2, 2020I wanted to take this time to thank you so much for contributing to my BRAINiacs project. I can't wait to get back into the classroom and make learning hands-on again. The materials I acquired from this project will allow me to do just that, not to mention get the kids excited to learn science again after a year of virtual learning. My plan is to use our model brain to better understand and visualize the various lobes and their function, and the model spinal column to understand the mechanisms behind the central vs peripheral nervous system. We will also be dissecting REAL sheep brains from Carolina Biological Supply at the conclusion of the unit. I can't wait to see the students' faces light up when they find out about this lab I have planned for them!
Thank you, again, for making this vision possible.”

Funded Nov 25, 2020I wanted to thank you all so much for contributing to this unique project. Humanity has a lot of its own issues right now, so the fact that you were generous enough to support a project that ensured the humane treatment of our animal friends says a lot about you. Now, especially with the cold snap we're experiencing, is a time many small mammals like mice make their way indoors for warmth and survival. Because of this, many buildings and schools resort to using inhumane methods of ridding the premises of our non-human neighbors. These catch-and-release traps will ensure my school has an option that is both humane and effective. I can think of no better way to set an example to our students of how to treat others and develop empathy.
Thank you so much again, and hope you are staying warm!”

Making BRAINterns
Funded Oct 22, 2020I recently received GORGEOUS models of the spinal column/ skeletal system and brain. The Brain provides a clear, color coded visual of the lives and functions of each part, while the spine will help me teach how our brain sends messages to the rest of our body during our Human Body/ Nervous system unit. As soon as the items arrived and were set up in my room, students and teachers alike came to check it out. They are truly beautiful, educational additions to our classroom. I can't wait to use them! My students and I appreciate your generosity so much in bringing this project to life. I hope they will all walk away from the unit with a better understanding of how amazing our bodies evolved to be, as well as gain empathy for people suffering from various neuromuscular or skeletal conditions. Thank you so much for making this happen.”

Funded May 28, 2020You can not imagine the sheer utility the IPad project you helped fund has had on my career over this period of absolute chaos, uncertainty and anxiety during CoVID and distance learning. The IPad has allowed me over the spring, and even now this fall as we returned back to school, to monitor my chatrooms and see my students faces as I am sharing my screen on another device to present my lessons. This has been enormously helpful and has truly made my teaching so much more smooth and efficient. In a time where many teachers feel lost and left to "figure it out", I take great comfort, and feel much humility and gratefulness in knowing there are people like you who are watching out for us and our amazing students.
Again, I thank you from the bottom of my heart, and hope you will choose to continue supporting teachers during these uncertain times. It means the world of difference.”
