Third grade is one of the most important grades because this is when students are transitioning into young adults and becoming independent! In a classroom full of young minds that also has ELL learners as well, a creative tolerant classroom is extremely significant to new ESL/ELL students. Students will be learning phonics, reading, and writing with a variety of hands on and engaging materials. Being new to a country is hard, learning the new culture should be fun and exciting. All of these materials will help me to instill a desire for literacy that will continue throughout the rest of each and every one of my students’ lives! Materials such as the Close Reading Comprehension, Magnetic Story Board, and Organizers will help students to fulfill their creative learning needs while advertising what they know and are learning. Every learning style deserves a fair chance to succeed! Students need to see that everyone is a little different in how they look, how they learn and what they are experiencing. Hands on materials and literacy centers are crucial tools for emerging readers and ESL students to develop a social tolerance for what they know and how others learn. Using the bulletin board paper students can write in their native language and over the course of the year to translate and change it into English.
