  • Music Technology Comes Alive

    Funded Aug 22, 2023

Wow! I can't thank you enough for your generous gift of a MacBook pro to our music classroom. This laptop will allow our students to compose music on Mac-only applications, such as GarageBand and MovieMaker. The students were so excited to open up the box, and charge it up for the first time today! This computer will serve as the backbone to a music technology center, which will eventually include a keyboard controller and other inputs. This laptop will bring our program into the future, and teach our students valuable skills. Thank you so much!”

  • Marchin' On

    Funded May 10, 2023

Thank you so much for your generous donation to our music classroom. This marching snare drum will provide another student the opportunity to join the school drumline. Drumline has been a valuable activity, and has boosted the self esteem of some of the most 'at-risk' students in our student population. Teamwork, physicality, self control, listening and future planning are just some of the skills learned in drumline. This program has had a positive effect on many lives, and I am so thankful we will be able to offer the opportunity to another interested student. Thanks again.”

  • Hear Ye, Hear Ye!

    Funded Jun 1, 2023

Thank you so much for your generous support of our music classroom. Your donation has provided 15 sets of headphones to students who might not have the money to purchase their own. It is frustrating for students and teachers alike when kids can't participate in a digital music lesson due to a lack of headphones. These high quality Sony headphones will alleviate this problem, and provide students with a positive music education experience while using technology. Thanks again for your help and support.”

  • Strike up the Band!

    Funded May 13, 2023

Thank you so much for supporting my professional development project. During this summer course from the Music Education Center of America, I learned all about famous bands from throughout history. This knowledge has inspired and reenergized my band teaching. I am looking forward to starting this year with newfound reverence for the tradition that is American band. The Dawes band will be able to march into the future this year, while honoring the past. Thanks again for helping me attend this valuable and fascinating professional development course.”

  • Reeds, Neck Straps, and Valve Oil Oh My!

    Funded May 6, 2023

Thank you so much for supporting a band program in a low income area. These neck straps, reeds, and oils will help us start the school year on the right foot. Our families love participating in band, however they don't always have the funds needed for instruments, supplies and lessons. Your donation is helping beginning band students have positive first experiences playing in an ensemble. Our band students love participating in the group. Thanks again. Band has been a lifesaver to so many of our at-risk students, giving them a safe and productive space to belong and to express themselves.”

  • Peace, Love, and SOUL!

    Funded May 4, 2023

Thank you so much for your generous donations to our Soul Train event for Black History Month. These Soul Train t-shirts were passed out to students who participated in a hallway dance line. Half a year later, I am still seeing students wearing their Soul Train t-shirts to school with pride. These shirts helped to bolster self-esteem and cultural awareness amongst our African American students. The Soul Train experience also taught kids some local history as well, and helped them to connect what they have learned about the civil rights movement to arts and culture in people's everyday lives. Thank you again.”

  • Play Your Heart Out

    Funded May 18, 2023

Thank you so much for your generous donation towards this valuable professional development session. While participating in this virtual training, I gained valuable skills and strategies to implement jazz improvisation education in my classroom. This class took me out of my comfort zone, and pushed me to keep my mind on my students and our music program this summer. I can't wait to help the kids develop their own musical voices through the American art of jazz improvisation. I can't thank you enough for this incredible experience. Improvising on an instrument provides such a valuable means of expression to students. Thanks again!”

    Funded May 4, 2023

Thank you so much for supporting our tradition of an all-school SOUL TRAIN for Black History Month! Your generous donation of disco balls, glow sticks and prizes will make this celebration even more fun for the kids. Soul Train is an important part of both Black history and Chicago history. After learning about Soul Train, our students have been able to make priceless connections with family members and school staff, especially those of a certain age. Sharing the heritage and history of Soul Train allows our students to gain self confidence and see themselves within the scope of Black history and American history.
