  • This and That for School!

    Funded Oct 15, 2024

Your donations have had an enormous impact on our classroom. Because of your generosity, our library is well-organized, and students are better able to find the authors they love and the titles they want to read! Further, many of my students have volunteered to be 'librarians,' caretakers of the library that you helped to organize! So, thank you!

In addition, you provided funding for the "Wings of Fire" series. You cannot conceive of how excited so many of my students were as we unboxed the set. They have been waiting for the entire collection, and now they have been voraciously reading it thanks to your generosity.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. White

  • Tape & Erasers for Projects

    Funded Jun 9, 2024

Words cannot express how grateful I am for your quick and immediate response to my Donors Choose request. I was overwhelmed by your generosity and kindness. Thank you, thank you.

The materials arrived this school year instead of last. Unfortunately, the materials did not arrive in time for your children to use them. However, your donations bless this year's 6th-grade students, and because of you, each child will receive their own [really great!] eraser, and every table will have months' worth of tape to use with various projects.

Thank you for all you have done for our school, and thank you for your support of all of our students. I enjoyed every moment I spent with each of your children last year, and their thoughtfulness and joy continue to enrich our community.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. White

  • Great Books for Great Kids!

    Funded Mar 29, 2023

Nothing brings me more happiness than providing my students with the books they love. Every year, without fail, I always have to renew our "Diary of a Wimpy Kid" collection; the kids love that series so much that, the books either walk out of our classroom and find another home, or they fall apart because they've been read so much! Thank you for helping me restock that fan favorite.

Another great series that you provided that made so many children happy is the "Warrior Cats" series! Many students in the past had donated several books to our library from that series, but they were never all from the same series. Your donation allowed me to add TWO complete "Warrior Cats" series to our library. Thank you!

There really are no words to express how much happiness you brought to our classroom. Thank you for everything you have done for us.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. White

  • “A Reader Lives a Thousand Lives Before He dies...”

    Funded Mar 27, 2023

In a world where we see more kids with devices in their hands than books, nothing can describe how incredibly excited they are when new books come to our classroom. That was certainly true when ALL of the boxes arrived with the new books. The kids could hardly wait to open them, and before I could organize them and put them on bookshelves, they were going through the stacks of books, looking at all of the new titles, asking me to put their favorites aside for them.

I wish all of you could have been there to see how incredibly excited they were, but please know that your donation made a real difference in their lives.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. White

  • A Bookcase, You Say? Yes! We Need One Today!

    Funded Mar 25, 2023

Words cannot express how grateful we are for the new bookcase! Our books were piled in stacks on the floor, on the counter top, and on tables; now, they have a beautiful new home that was very easy to put together. I even had several students volunteer to help me put it together, and they really enjoyed the project.

The bookcase is large, heavy, and sturdy, and it has beautiful molding, making it seem as if it is a solid wood bookcase. It's a lovely addition to our classroom, and it makes our room feel more like home.”

  • Fantastic Books for Fantastic Kids!

    Funded Oct 13, 2021

After nearly a year and a half of remote learning, I knew that many of my students had fallen out of practice with reading. More importantly, I knew that many might have forgotten the love and joy they once felt when reading an engrossing, fantastic book in favor of watching endless hours of YouTube or Netflix. I knew that helping them find their way back to books and literature would be an incredibly difficult but important task that I couldn't do alone. I would need your help.

ELA (English Language Arts) class isn't just about teaching kids how to read and what skills or strategies to use in order to understand a text, which is, of course, very important. It's also about finding yourself in the stories and essays you read. It's about identifying with a character or an author who has similar experiences as you so that you don't feel so alone. It's about discovering other countries and cultures and people and experiences from the distant and recent past who are very different from you but with whom you grow to understand and empathize, making you a more empathetic, understanding, compassionate citizen of the world. By helping to provide our students with these books, you have provided the tools by which our kids can become better scholars and more thoughtful people. There aren't enough words to thank you enough.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. White

  • Help With Heavy Lifting

    Funded Jan 29, 2020

Due to the pandemic, we have not yet installed the projector, though we intend to do so as soon as we are able this school year. Additionally, the pictures included are of our students this year; however, we were unable to take pictures of them with the newly installed projector for the aforementioned reason. The projector will be installed to project on the whiteboard you see behind the students in the first two pictures.

My co-teachers and I cannot thank you enough for your generous donations that have made the installation of this second projector possible. Given the current health crisis, the second projector will be invaluable. We will be able to give much more time and specialized instruction to our children who are in attendance on the days for which they are scheduled. It will enable us to split the small classes into even smaller groups, except now, both groups will have access to equal equipment and instruction. Before, only one group had access to the projector and whiteboard; the second group had to improvise. Now, both teachers (and groups) will have the necessary instruments needed to maximize learning.

We hope all of you are well and healthy. Thank you for making our instructional vision a reality.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. White

  • Laptops and Headphones and Cardstock, Oh My!

    Funded Aug 13, 2019

You have made this year's curriculum possible due to your generous donations! Because of you, we now have a complete class set of Chromebooks. These are especially useful because each student uses a Chromebook to complete the classwork that is posted on Google Classroom, a digital platform. Students are able, for example, to draft and revise narratives many times, using comments posted on their digital documents by other students as well as teachers to continuously revise their work. They receive immediate feedback on their work, as well as actionable suggestions for improvement.

Furthermore, the cardstock, as you can see in one of the photographs, makes displays of their classwork beautiful and exciting. The headphones have enabled our English Language Learners to access websites and software that allow them to hear the language spoken as they follow the words on the screen.

Our gratitude has no bounds. We cannot say enough how much we appreciate your generosity and support.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. White

This classroom project was brought to life by The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and 5 other donors.
  • An Apple A Day Keeps the Grades All A's!

    Funded Nov 29, 2018

Your donations to our project have transformed our classroom, and we cannot thank you enough for your generosity and support!

The five new Chromebooks have replaced the ones that no longer worked. The students assigned to the five broken Chromebooks had been using incredibly outdated laptops that were extremely heavy, lost their charge quickly, and took a very long time to connect to the Internet. As a result, they lost valuable work time having to wait on the outdated technology to respond to their requests.

Now, however, due to the new Chromebooks, those five students are able to begin their work immediately, like the rest of the class, and work on their projects without interruption. We complete many assignments digitally through Google Classroom, and as such, they no longer worry that they will not be able to access the form or the document they need to complete online. They love the new laptops and are thankful to have them.

The Apple TV and the iPad Mini have revolutionized our classroom! As you can see in the pictures, the other teachers I teach with and I are able to wirelessly project ANYTHING we need directly to the projector. We no longer are chained to the front of the room due to wires and are now able to freely move about the room as we teach, continuing to project different charts, documents, and images as needed.

Thank you for choosing to help fund our project!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. White

  • Guillotines and Guillotine Paper Cutter

    Funded Dec 7, 2016

My students and I would like to thank you, from the bottom of our hearts, for your incredible generosity. Your contributions have provided my students the opportunity to lose themselves in history -- to ignite their thirst for learning while at the same time enjoying a wonderfully told story through the Wicked History series. My students LOVE these books. Students who would not necessarily pick up a book and read for pleasure are now devouring this high-interest series. While doing so, they are learning valuable skills such as building their vocabulary, creating background knowledge, and most importantly, asking themselves how history connects with our government and society today.

Thank you, again, so very much for greatly contributing to our students' educations and lives.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. White

Welcome to my Donors Choose page! Thank you for visiting. I teach on the Lower East Side of Manhattan in a school with over 75% of the students qualifying for free/reduced lunch. Many of my students' first language is not English, and some of them struggle with learning disabilities. However, they are delightful, curious and creative children who work hard and achieve much! I feel incredibly lucky to be their teacher!
