This school year has been nothing short of unpredictable. I wanted to make sure that my classroom students still feel a connection to the school community even while learning from home. You have made this possible by donating postcards, decorative thinking to you sentiments and fun postcard facts for me to send love notes home.
The students beam with excitement when they receive mail. They stay after class to chat and know that we want nothing more than for them to know we care! This small simple gesture has given me a unique connection with all of the students. Thank you so much for helping me make this difficult learning situation more bearable. The students that I teach truly embody the meaning of resilience in a time of adversity.”
We can not thank you enough for all of the new materials the students received! Having more reading choices exposed our class to so many new authors.
We even used a Kate DiCamillo book (The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane) for our book club discussion and writing sessions. The students really related to how Edward changes through the course of the book and it allowed them to understand from an outsiders perspective that you can have more than one emotion almost simultaneously like love and loss.
Without donors I wouldn't be able to give my class rich engaging stories to dive into. From the bottom of our hearts thank you!”
Thank you so much for all of your generous donations to fund our classroom project. As you know the essentials like paper, pencils and filing supplies are limited. I can not tell you how much easier printing worksheets and graphic organizers has been with the case of paper stored in our classroom funded by donors like you.
I have implemented a filing system to help me keep student work organized. I use it to inform my future lessons, teach student progress and show parents where their child's learning has grown. My co-teacher and I can not thank you all enough.”
I can not express my gratitude for the thoughtful, kind monetary gestures you have chosen to give to our class. With the money we added over 30 titles to our library.
The look on their faces when we all took a moment to investigate the new stories and decide if a certain book was "just right" was such a fun moment. There was such buzz and excitement that students were making timing lists so that they could be sure to get the next book.
Since then we have used Tiger Rising as a read aloud. We learned about character traits, recurring themes, character motivation and reflected on our thoughts about how we were similar or different from the two main characters, Rob and Sistine. Thank you so much!”
Being a teacher in the Bronx you really notice educational inequities that exist. Not only do we want our students to have varied texts to discuss character traits, themes and main ideas we want them to be able to bridge what they read to lessons they learned in school through another persons perspective.
New books for our students can be hard to come by. My co-teacher and I want to surprise our students with a host of new titles for them to enjoy in class and at home.
My students are really excited to improve their reading skills this year. Being an ICT class can be challenging for my co-teacher and I. We have a wide range of leveled reading learners this year and want to provide challenging texts that promote curiosity and support a love of reading. Our goal is to get an appropriate leveled book in the hands of every student. Our children are thirsty for knowledge and they come ready to learn everyday. Help us fan the fires of curiosity!
