Build Our Library!
Funded Jul 8, 2014Thank you for choosing to donate to my classroom this past year. I would like to take a few minutes of your time to express my gratitude for the gifts you have provided to my students and I by sharing some of the work we have accomplished this year using your resources.
I had one prominent goal this year for my class; create an environment that allows students to enjoy learning. The resources you provided were to diversify our Read Alouds. Upon receiving the books, my students gravitated towards the books Two Bad Ants, Probudit, and Zathura. A few students would write letters to friends and other teachers about the books they were reading. They often invited these people to read with us in the classroom. One of my students loved reading about the "bad ants" so much that he started to give me drawings of his favorite characters. It was such a touching and rewarding experience to have students truly enjoy learning.
At this point of this year, I must say that I have seen my students grow academically to become inquisitive and thoughtful learners. My ESL students, who were nervous to speak and share, became some of my most outspoken students. I believe that my students left 4th grade with an interest in learning and exploring because of the resources you have provided to our class with your donations. Please accept my sincere thanks on behalf of my classroom and my school. The 4th grade was a better year because of you!”
With gratitude,

American History in the Fourth Grade!

I had one prominent goal this year for my class; create an environment that allows students to enjoy learning. The resources you provided were to diversify our American History sources and texts.
Upon receiving the books, my students gravitated towards the American Revolution books. A few students would write letters to friends and other teachers about the Stamp Act, the Battle at Trenton, and their preferred "George" I the book George v. George (George Washington v. King George III). One of my students loved reading about George Washington and other political so much that he started to give me drawings of his favorite characters. It was such a touching and rewarding experience to have students truly enjoy history and learning.

I had one prominent goal this year for my class; create an environment that allows students to enjoy learning. I requested a Microsoft Tablet in order to allow my students to do independent research according to their academic interests. Please refer to the pictures provided to understand the evolution of the projects with this resource.
I began my lessons with the tablet by having students reading non-fiction resources and articles to find any topics they were interested in. Afterward, students debated a few of the most popular topics in order to determine which subject matter would be the most interesting to research. Students began research by choosing small groups to research a particular topic and create research questions. Afterwords, we had a classroom research project about whether students would "trust Christopher Columbus" if they were in a Native American group. After researching, students continued to debate what they found in their research about Columbus and his travels.

Funded Mar 18, 2014Thank you for choosing to donate to my classroom this past year. I would like to take a few minutes of your time to express my gratitude for the gifts you have provided to my students and I by sharing some of the work we have accomplished this year using your resources.
I had one prominent goal this year for my class; create an environment that allows students to enjoy learning. The resources you provided were for our two major subjects, math and the reading. I requested math games to build upon students' basic math skills, such as multiplication, division, and fraction knowledge. Above all, my students loved multiplication bingo and the fraction flash cards and would request daily that I "quiz them" on their multiplication knowledge. In addition, your donation provided fiction and non-fiction texts for my classroom. As displayed in some of the photos, my children absolutely loved the texts you provided. Our reading workshop became a time when students could explore the diverse genres I now had available. The Magic School Bus and the National Geographic books on animals quickly became classroom favorites.
I would also like to share a project students created after receiving some of the fictions texts. Our 4th grade decided to create a Literacy Fair using books of all genres and variety. Included in the photographs are some of the works created by students after reading the books given to them. By creating these projects, students practiced their summary writing, plot evaluation, character analysis, and writing of a book recommendation. The project became a huge success for both learners and teachers as the project summed up our entire writing curriculum. Watching students recommend books to read in the summer and in the upcoming year to the future 4th graders was such a touching and rewarding experience.
