Help Fill Our Tiny Artists heARTs With Art supplies.
Funded Oct 27, 2022Your donations helped the students in my classroom create beautiful artwork over the last several months. I was able to maintain a clean classroom after using sticky materials like glue, using some of the cleaning materials I purchased.
My students were excited when they saw boxes of new supplies being brought into the art room, it was like Christmas to them.
One of the projects that students are most proud of is their self-portraits. Thanks to your donations I was able to purchase oil pastels for them to use for this project. Students observed their own skin tones and mixed the pastels until they were able to mix their own skin tones. This enabled students to feel represented, as coloring sets do not always have colors that represent every skin tone. I am sharing photos of some of these beautiful self portraits for all to see.
Your donations meant more to myself and my students than you will ever know.”

Fifth Grade Self Portrait Project
Funded Jan 20, 2019The students who participated in this lesson began to learn how to draw the proportions of the human face so they could start drawing more realistically. Students used the mirrors that were provided to them through your donations to look at their faces so they could draw their likenesses on their papers. Students practiced their knowledge of how to draw their faces using the correct proportions as well as using their mirrors to see where they could add shadows and highlights. Charcoal pencils in a range of shades helped them achieve the technique of shading, while the white charcoal pencils helped them add light where they saw it.
Students looked and felt like real artists as they sat down at their tables in front of their portrait mirrors with their new materials. Many students had never used charcoal or charcoal pencils before so it was a wonderful learning experience. They loved being able to manipulate the shades of the charcoal by blending them with their fingers and other blending materials.
The student work which is provided in pictures shows just how accomplished these young artists were because of your generous donations.”
