Just Keep Swimming...Virginia Aquarium and Marine Science Center

Funded Jan 30, 2019

Thank you so much for your donations. The trip to the Virginia Aquarium and Marine Science Center was a huge success. The students got to enjoy the many exhibits of fish, sharks, and stink rays. They especially enjoyed the hands-on exhibits. They got to touch horseshoe crabs and starfish. In addition, our students love being outside and were able to enjoy a walk on the trail through the woods looking at different plants and birds.

The biggest highlight was the sting ray exhibit. Some of our students were able to reach their hands into the water. Sting rays swam right up to them and allowed them to pet them. The students that were unable to pet them still got to enjoy the experience. The tank that the sting rays are in has a window so you can see under the water. That made that perfect for our students to get a close look at the sting rays swimming.

Before and after the trip our students explored different animals that were at the Virginia Aquarium. We did activities/crafts and watched interactive videos. After the trip, our students built their own aquarium on paper. They were given options of different pictures and were able to build an aquarium of their choosing. In all, our trip was amazing and our students had a wonderful time.

Once again, thank you so much!!! We couldn't have visited the Virginia Aquarium and Marine Science Center without your kindness and generosity.”

With gratitude,

Ms. Browne
