We Ran Out of Pencils, Can You Help?
Funded May 21, 2025Wow! Thank you so much for the pencils! We really need pencils and a working pencil sharpener. Our school is located in Philadelphia and we do not get too much funding. The supply closet is bare. Pencils must be going home with the students because they are always missing. Your generosity really makes us feel special!”

Ms. Brogden
We Need Dry Erase Markers to Write Letters and Words
Funded Feb 17, 2025Thank you so much for your generosity. Expo markers are very pricey so I cannot thank you enough. We ran out of markers and some students have been using pencils and paper for the 25 minute whiteboard activity that goes along with the reading lesson. Thanks so much! They will be very happy.”

Basic Supplies Needed
Funded Aug 31, 2024We thank you so much for helping out our classroom. We are an underfunded school that has the bare minimum. The supply closet is scarce, and it is up to the teachers and families to provide supplies for the classroom. With today's economy, many of us are struggling, including families. Your generosity goes a long way and you have provided us with the tools we need everyday.
Thanks to you, we have enough pencils. Thanks to you, we have enough crayons and colored pencils. Thanks to you, we have an expensive "heavy duty" pencil sharpener that will not break easily. Thanks to you we have colorful paper and sticky notes. And thanks to you, we have what we need to succeed!
Our students have excellent attendance because they love learning. Our first graders love school because our school is a wonderful school with dedicated teachers. We say our school is the best school in "Philadelphia" and you are the best for helping us to succeed in school.”

Funded Dec 27, 2023Your gift means so much because it shows us that there are awesome people like you who care about kids and their education.
Thank you for helping us and supporting our students! Southwark Elementary School is an ethnically diverse K-8 school of over 1000 students located in South Philadelphia. In the 2022-2023 school year, over 40% of our students were English language learners.
The books that you purchased will help the students learn phonics and teach them how to read. I selected Pre-Primer (Kindergarten) and Primer (grade 1) books in sets of 6. I utilize these books to teach my students how to read. They need the extra practice and these books include sight words (important words) that will build fluency.
We are so grateful and we hope that you like the pictures.”

Supporting Hispanic Students in Reading
Funded Oct 23, 2023We are using the materials that you purchased in small groups. You purchased fiction and nonfiction books in sets of 5. This allows me to read with groups up to 5 students.
The books you purchased are special because they are leveled at their "just right" reading level. These books are not too hard nor too easy and contain the most important words called "sight words." When children learn how to read these words, it builds fluency. These are the words commonly used in books, newspapers, etc.
The leveled books are mostly grades Kindergarten, grade 1, and grade 2. Although my students are in grade 3, they are learning to speak English.
Most of my students recently migrated from Honduras, Ecuador, Mexico, Guatemala, Dominican Republic, and Cuba. Their first language is Spanish. Thus, the books you purchased contain simple one sentences in English. This is the most effective way to teach students to read. I want to give a big "thank you" for helping me to teach my Hispanic students to read and speak English.”

The students are so grateful. I hope you like the pictures and thank you notes they created for you.
They love reading the books you purchased and I can see an improvement in their fluency.
Many of my Hispanic students recently migrated from Honduras, Guatemala, Mexico, and Venezuela and with your donation, they are learning English!”

Funded Sep 6, 2023Thank you for the 12 metal stools for our small group learning table. From the bottom of my heart I thank each and every one of you for your generosity!
Students do not always grasp new information at the same pace. Small group instruction gives students the opportunity for more practice and one to one instruction with the teacher.
The beauty of small group instruction is that students are grouped together based on their individual needs and the teacher can create and present lessons in groups from 1-6 students.
Everyday I meet with 3-6 small groups of students to help them learn. Enclosed you will find before and after pictures of the seating for my small group instruction.
We love the new stools because they are metal and will last for years to come!”

Southwark Elementary School is located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Our school is very diverse and our students receive free breakfast and lunch. Parents are hard-working and many of our students are new to the country.
Learning has come to life for my sweet English language learners because of generous people like you. Not only do we now have a class pencil sharpener, students are able to write and use crayons and markers in reading and writing. Students love writing in their journals and now they are able to draw and color pictures in their journals.
Thank you again for supporting this project- you have made a tremendous impact in our classroom!”

Funded Nov 29, 2022I simply cannot begin to express our gratitude that has resulted from your selfless giving. Oftentimes, our students come from very poor backgrounds and rarely have the resources to purchase instructional materials. Because of your gift, I was able to purchase phonics games and hands- on manipulative materials. Learning games are extremely beneficial in teaching students phonics and reading. The phonics puzzles and games teach letters of the alphabet, short vowels, beginning and ending consonants, long vowels, vowel diagraphs, dipthongs, and blends. As you can see in the pictures, they love matching the pictures to words and putting 3 letter word puzzles together! The students want me to tell you "Thank you" for helping them learn to read!”
