  • Fun Times in Mrs. Brekke's Room

    Funded Oct 5, 2021

I am writing to express my heartfelt gratitude for your generous contributions that provided my students with special needs access to engaging games and toys. Your kindness and support have made an incredible difference in their learning experience, fostering both academic growth and social-emotional development in ways that are truly invaluable.

For many of my students, traditional learning methods can be challenging, but the interactive and hands-on nature of these new materials has transformed their engagement and enthusiasm. The games have encouraged teamwork, critical thinking, and problem-solving, while the toys have helped develop their fine and gross motor skills. Whether practicing turn-taking with board games, enhancing hand-eye coordination through building activities, or fostering communication skills with interactive play, each student has benefited in a unique and meaningful way.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Brekke

  • Color Curriculum Materials

    Funded Oct 6, 2023

Thank you so much for donating to our classroom project. With the change in printing availability this year we struggled to provide our students with hands on materials from our Curriculum - Unique Learning Systems. This curriculum is modified to meet diverse student needs with colorful photos and an online format, but some students thrive with materials that they can touch and feel and manipulate with cutting and glueing.

We truly appreciate your donation to make having a color printer in our classrooms so that we can provide colorful materials for our students.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Brekke

  • Distance Learning or In-Person School Projects

    Funded Sep 14, 2020

Thank you so much for donating in these crazy times. It has been incredibly difficult to find ways to interact, be active and engage in learning together. The students are still in comprehensive distance learning and have enjoyed the water bottles and fitness trackers. We are keeping daily or weekly logs of how many steps they are doing.

It is fun to see them engage with these materials for real life math applications. They are identifying two digit and three digit numbers. In these real life situations that they can apply to their own physical fitness. During these times when being at school was a source of activity and time spent with peers, being at home has been rough for many students.

The other students have also enjoyed their water bottles. They bring them every day to their learn from home spaces. We have also been learning about other healthy habits; getting enough sleep, brushing teeth, showering or taking baths, healthy foods and of course exercise.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Brekke

  • Sensory Room

    Funded Aug 13, 2019

My students have greatly benefitted from having a designated sensory space. The tools, equipment and supplies have created safe and calming places for students to regulate their emotions.

The students were very excited to have access to such cool, new and tailored materials. And to be able to use a swing that is more stable was incredibly exciting.

We continue to use the classroom daily. We have opened up the space for other students, with adult support, to utilize the materials as well. It has been helpful for a few other students.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Brekke

  • Classroom Technology

    Funded Jan 25, 2018

We are so thankful to have this amazing technology donated to our classroom. The touch screen technology has been a great help for some of our students who have a more difficult time using a mouse with our chromebooks. They can easily access the apps we use to facilitate learning. They then can be more independent in our centers routine and this makes our transitions much easier and quicker!

The kids also love that their favorite learning apps can be played at school. The tracing of capital and lowercase letter apps have been a real help in their identification of letters as well as their writing of letters. It also helps that these touch screen devices are easily mobile and that students can take them into our break space or a learning corner and use them there.

One of my students who had a particular hard time with a regular computer and mouse is just breezing through his centers now that the barrier of using a mouse to navigate the websites is gone. He is able to independently go to the tablet and get on the app and start his learning! So fabulous! Now that he is independent in this it has spread and he is independent in many other skills as well!

Having the right technology in a classroom is crucial for student success as using apps to increase their participation and documentation of their own work is invaluable. Thank you for your donation to this project!!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Brekke

Our classroom centers run on fun, engaging activities that are centered around common core academics. The way in which some students with disabilities access curriculum is through educational learning games as well as educational apps. Laughter and smiles are a way to test to see if a student is engaged in their learning. Some students have difficulty with the barrier of using a trackpad or mouse for online learning games, so touch screen capability allows any student to access the technology. We currently have 2 updated iPads and 4 1st generation iPads that do not allow new educational apps to download. There are various educational learning opportunities online that some students can access through educational apps that would greatly benefit each student's learning. The simple features of a touch screen iPad can help students access apps that would normally require teaching through using a mouse or touchpad but some fine motor skills are yet to develop and it would be a barrier for them.
