Transform Our Learning, Let Us Explore!

Funded Mar 28, 2019

We are all so grateful for our new science materials! In 5th grade we have been learning about how organisms end up trapped in rock layers as sedimentary rocks form around them, creating fossils over thousands, sometimes tens of thousands of years. My students are so excited about having such specimens in their hands! They feel what geologists do when they make new discoveries, and one student even said "It's like I'm holding 10,000 years in my hands". They started making inferences about where the fossils were found based on their knowledge of the organisms and the sedimentary rock encasing the fish fossils.

In 6th grade we are using our materials for our science fair projects. The investigation questions revolve around energy transference and using renewable energy as a healthier alternative for our environment and ourselves. Although 6th grade has only started brainstorming on their projects, having these materials available has only opened up the possibilities for our investigations. The students are very excited to put our new solar energy kit to good use and model how different sources of energy can, and should, be used more effectively. We expect some really creative engineering projects and look forward to sharing those results as well!

This is truly an experience that we will always remember. Thanks to you, our students have experienced something priceless. Learning has become very real and tangible, and that is something that I could not have done without your help.”

With gratitude,

Ms. Brandie
