Wherever it may be, my students have asked to do assignments in various places other than their own desks. Imagine being limited to only one way of learning; as an educator, that seems unacceptable, and to a student, it is an all too familiar reality. Beyond differentiating curriculum, I believe that students deserve environmental differentiation as well. This school year, our classroom theme will promote that, "We are like a box of crayons, each one of us is unique, and when we get together, our classroom is vibrantly complete!" Based off of this theme, I am creating a flexible learning classroom to meet the unique needs of my students. The first step that I am taking in order to create our collaborative flexible seating room, is to ask for a colorful and comfortable classroom carpet! The floors in our classroom are linoleum, and will not be very welcoming or practical for whole group or collaborative work. Our room will not only be more colorful with the addition of the large 30 student carpet, but also, more comfortable! I believe that with the addition of the carpet to our room, my students will be inspired to learn in new ways, and do amazing things.
