  • Algebra Students Need Supplies to Be Successful Mathematicians!

    Funded Oct 17, 2018

My students are excited each time I pull one of the donated materials out of the classroom cabinet. They loved using the graph stickers while learning how to graph quadratic and polynomial functions. It gave them plenty of space to plot their points and visualize shapes that can be used to model real world situations. It is funny to watch the rolls of graph stickers fly across the room as the kids share the resource with each other.

When the materials first arrived the kids were curious about the collection of boxes littering the front of the classroom and several were eager to assist me in opening the packages. They were beyond excited to see the variety of materials that were donated for them to use during the school year. I have a station in the front of the room for the kids to grab the paper and pencils they need when they run out. Any time they run out of materials I'm quickly reminded to restock the station for them to access what is needed.

During the remaining months my students will regularly use the tissues, paper towels, and hand sanitizer to stay clean and healthy. They'll regularly use the paper and markers to work out problems in their efforts to learn algebra 2 concepts. The kids love to work out problems on their desks using the expo markers, they think its cool that they can write on the furniture.

My students and I cannot begin to express how thankful we are for the resources that have been made available to us this school year. The materials will make the year run smoothly and assist in understanding concepts more easily.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Blanco

  • Algebra Students Need Supplies to Become Successful Mathematicians!

    Funded Oct 23, 2017

My students were thrilled when our boxes arrived and were eager to begin digging through all the supplies provided. My students kept asking who donated all the materials we received and they were shocked by the extent of your generosity.

My students use the supplies provided every day during our lessons and when completing assignments. Every class begins with the kids grabbing pencils out of those we received and using our "fancy" new pencil sharpener. The kids were extremely impressed by how industrial and strong our electric sharpener is in comparison to the old one they previously used. Anytime a student runs out of lead for their pencil or has a dull eraser I am able to provide them with some so they can get back on track.

The students have also loved using the graph stickers, which saves time when we are learning a new lesson; recently they were using the graphs to practice graphing quadratic or polynomial equations. They request the stickers at the start of class and are constantly asking where I found the stickers; I am quick to remind them that they were donated to us for their benefit.

The materials you've made available to my students has made every day in my math class more productive. All the students have access to basic school supplies and are prepared each day to learn the day's lesson. My algebra students also feel more comfortable in the classroom since they know that all the materials are easily accessible whenever needed.

Being prepared each day with supplies readily available for the kids has made every day flow without the constant worry of who has materials or isn't fully prepared to learn that day. Words cannot begin to express how thankful we are for the supplies you have made available for us through donorschoose.org. We greatly appreciate your generous contribution to their education and continued success.”

    With gratitude,

  • Algebra Students Prepare and Succeed!

My students were thrilled when our boxes arrived several months ago and were eager to begin digging through all the supplies provided. My students kept asking who donated all the materials we received and they were shocked by the extent of your generosity.

My students use the supplies provided every day during our lessons and when completing assignments. Every class begins with the kids pulling pencils out of the tub of pencils we received and taking a sheet of paper from the numerous reams we have as well. Anytime a student runs out of lead for their pencil I am able to provide them with some so they can get back on track.

The students have also loved using the graph sticky notes which saves time when we're learning a new lesson related to graphing exponential and linear equations. The kids constantly ask where I found the sticky notes and I'm quick to remind them that they were donated to us for their benefit.

  • Let's Calculate That!

    Funded Dec 5, 2013

When we received the calculators and printer requested in January my students were in shock that a company would be willing to donate money towards a project like ours. Most of the kids asked questions like "who donated the money for these calculators?" and "someone actually read the project you wrote and give us all this?" My students' questions show me how appreciative they are that someone is truly interested in their education and future.

The resources that were purchased for my classes are used every school day and I'm happy to report that my students find them extremely useful. I've used the various calculators to demonstrate how to solve logarithmic equations and simplify more complex radical expressions, much to the students' delight. The kids appreciate having a resource that makes their lives much easier and, according to several of the kids, more fashionable due to the scientific calculators being hot pink.

My Algebra 1 students have been using the basic calculators to prepare for their End-of-Course Exam, which they just completed today, as it is the type they have for the test. I wanted all the students to become familiar with a resource they would be using on their state test instead of having some students using handed down calculators from older siblings that were unapproved for testing or even some students not having a calculator due to their financial situation.

I honestly feel that my students have benefited from this project's fulfillment in a number of ways. The most direct way they've been impacted is through their learning of math topics in class. All the students are now able to following along in the lessons presented without the constant struggle of trying to borrow a calculator or not having one at all. I'm also able to present more complex topics, because the students all have access to features on the scientific calculators, whereas before I had to find a way to address certain topics without the calculator's features available to all students.

Your donation has truly impacted my students and me. We have the needed resources to better tackle complex math topics and we've even been encouraged by the generosity shown to us. I have no doubt that all my students will remember your kind contribution to their education and perhaps it will impact them in such a way that one day they'll reach out to assist others as well.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Blanco

Thank you for taking an interest in myself and my students' needs. I am doing my best to assist my students in receiving a top notch education and instilling in them a firm understanding of mathematical concepts that will benefit them now and in the future. My students range in age from 11 years old to 17 years old and are at different stages of their math careers. Some need help getting a solid foundation of basic concepts and others are preparing to choose career paths that are strongly infused with math and science.
