Students with autism and students with language delays need to learn how to use pictures and words to communicate. Non-verbal students can use i pads as voice output devices to express their wants and needs. Communication software on i pads is a simple, portable way for Pre-k students to build a foundation of communication. i pads with communication software provide a way for students with disabilities to communicate and learn how to communicate independently as their vocabulary increases. Picture/word symbols can be used in a variety of ways to teach students with autism and developmental delays to communicate. Non-verbal students can use the ipads to generate sounds when they cannot. Students can also combine picture/word symbols to create simple requests, make choices and express their feelings.
