Counseling Curriculum
Funded Jan 26, 2023Thank you so much again for donating counseling books and activities for my students. I was able to use these materials to teach social skills and appropriate behaviors. My students struggle with social skills due to their Autism classifications, but these high interest books teach valuable content in an engaging way.
My students have a wide range of abilities, and I found that these materials can be adapted for all ability levels. Thank you for helping to make my counseling sessions come to life!”

Counseling Decor
Funded Sep 22, 2021Thank you once again for your extremely generous donation. Your donation has allowed my counseling office to transform into a welcoming, colorful, and cheerful environment.
This is the first school year that many of my students have been in the school building since March 2020. It was important to me to create a inviting space where they would feel comfortable to engage in counseling services.
Your donation also allowed me to obtain some counseling activities, such as a collection of magnetics with positive and negative traits. Students have participated in sorting activities using the magnets in order to reflect on their own strengths and weaknesses.
Thank you for your support and helping to provide my students with the consistency they deserve!”

Fitness for a Healthy Lifestyle
Funded Sep 16, 2020Thank you so much for your donation that helped us obtain fitbits for our students! We are so excited to put them to the test to not only help our students get physically fit (especially during this challenging time when many are stuck at home) but to also use it as a way to teach them about the scientific process! This interdisciplinary approach to learning mimics real life and introduces them to a vast number of fields--many where women are under represented.
Using the fitbits to monitor heart rate and sleep will help them better understand how their life choices affect their health. Also using the data can help them do long term studies and look for trends in various populations. Like real scientists and athletes having this data is so important so that they can make better decisions and push the fields further to continuously invent new ways to grow both athletics and science respectively.”

This classroom project was brought to life by IF/THEN, an initiative of Lyda Hill Philanthropies and 9 other donors.Mental Health Matters
Funded Apr 3, 2020Thank you so much for providing materials to help enrich remote counseling for my students. The activities/games that you donated allowed students to engage more effectively in remote counseling sessions. In particular, the mindfulness card game facilitated conversations about recognizing feelings in the moment. Additionally, the blocks game provided sentence starters/questions that allowed students to open up during their sessions.
Also, thank you for donating the mindfulness and emotions books. These books served as valuable discussion points and will continue to be used for future students.
I am truly touched by your generosity! Thank you for supporting the mental health of my students during such a trying time.”

LCD Projector for Students with Special Needs
Funded Feb 27, 2011Thank you all so much for providing my classroom with a projector. This makes the world of difference for my students. Students with learning disabilities often respond better to visual stimuli and the projector has allowed them to access material that they would not normally be able to understand. In my 11th grade class, we just finished reading Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare. We were able to watch the movie on the projector and this gave my students a deeper understanding of the text. In my 10th grade class, we just finished reading The Boy in the Striped Pajamas by John Boyne and we were able to watch the movie as well.
Thank you for making a true difference in my classroom!”

Books For Students With Special Needs
Funded Feb 4, 2011I cannot thank you enough for supporting our class once again. My 10th grade self-contained English class is in the middle of reading A Raisin in the Sun by Lorraine Hansberry. Every day, my students look forward to acting out their assigned lines. We are using the text to discuss racial issues in America as well as the concept of the American Dream. This play is a perfect follow-up to the book we read last marking period, Of Mice and Men. Both works of literature question the existence of the American Dream.
I included a copy of our poetry magazine in the thank you package. I hope you enjoy it!
Thank you once again for exposing my students to rich and meaningful literature. ”

Ms. Birchard
