With a full class set of soft seats, wobble cushions, balance balls, and wobble chairs, my kids can keep their bodies at their desks and their minds focused on everything they want to learn. With a number of different tools to choose from, kids can find what works for them and recognize the external resources and internal strategies they can use to meet their own goals and advocate for their own success. (A full class set, meaning no swapping or sharing, is an added bonus!) They have the desire to learn new things, the perseverance to practice, the independence to think for themselves, and the courage to try and make mistakes. They just need a bit more support to allow them to put all those skills to good use. My antsy academics need some silly seats! My kids love new things in the classroom that look like toys and I love things that look like toys and work like tools. While recently fostering discussion in my classroom about the things we can all do when we are struggling to learn something new, this added resource can be introduced as just another learning strategy. Like double checking the operation in a fraction problem or making sure they capitalized every little I by itself, my students will have one more thing to give them their best chance at being everything I know they can be.
