  • Enhancing Our Reading and Language Skills with Audiobooks

    Funded Nov 8, 2024

Thank you so much for bringing our project to life! The Tonibox and characters have been a great addition to our classroom. I have several students on a variety of behavior plans and reward systems, and they love to earn time with the Tonie. Several students use it to help them calm down and regroup when they are dysregulated.

Many students in my room cannot read, so this gives them an alternative way to enjoy a book, which is another wonderful use for it. They are working on their wish list of characters they would like to have added to our collection. I know this will be helpful for so many students this year and for years to come.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Withrow

  • Wild Reading Adventures

    Funded Oct 3, 2024

Thank you again so much for funding this project! So far this year, we have read The Wild Robot, and now we've begun our adventure with the BFG! They bug me every day, wanting to know when we get to read because they want to know what happens next in the adventure. This is a beautiful story because it teaches about acceptance and being unique, a life lesson everyone needs to have. Next, we start The Wild Robot Escapes to see what Roz is up to on her adventures.

The class enjoys having the opportunity to read novels and hustle to get to the room so we have time to read. This is the first year I have used a class set of chapter books to read together, and I can't begin to tell you what a difference it makes. It has helped keep the students engaged and allows us to manipulate the text and mark where we find our answers. I am looking forward to being able to continue reading novels as a class for the years to come!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Withrow

  • Trunk or Treat, Smell My Feet

    Funded Oct 12, 2024

This year's Trunk or Treat event was a HUGE success! We had over 450 students come through with their families. There were so many families that we had to keep it going an extra 30 minutes just to get through them all! Seeing all the kids out dressed with their families was so lovely. They were all so excited to see the cars, costumes, and of course, the treats! Thank you; we had so much to offer them. My students talked about it when they walked in the door the following day! We look forward to continuing this as our annual tradition that grows yearly!”

Although their hearts may be small, they hold a lot of gratitude for the creativity materials you helped provid for our classroom.

You have made a tremendous impact on the dynamic of our class! Using the materials from this project has helped get excited about 5th grade. Building my relationships with students and having a healthy learning environment for ALL of them is #1 priority to me. Having projects funded by donors like you has helped to tie them together as a community. They are so proud to walk around knowing they are supported by people who want to see them succeed. It makes me proud to be the teacher walking beside them.

I wish words could express our gratitude. I get chills thinking of how our class would be without all the wonderful help from donors like you. Thank you again for this incredible donation!”

  • Let's Play Ball!

    Funded Aug 14, 2024

The kiddos requested this project personally so from the moment the news that it had been funded made it to our morning announcements they were sitting on edge waiting for the new materials to come into the building! We literally ripped the boxes open as soon as they arrived! They were so excited to have new things to play with outside. I absolutely love watching kids be kids. The kids take turns going out onto the field throwing and catching the balls. They love the ball and toss game. We sit around like its a competitive sport cheering on the teams! I think it's pretty awesome that they enjoy the hands-on play of toys and not have to be glued to electronics all day.

Watching them play soccer is the best! They make up their own kinds of different ways to play and they think it's hilarious. The boys laugh the hardest I think.

It's so important to see them outside and active. They all play so well together and it truly makes my heart happy to see them so alive. I am looking forward to the rest of the year of watching my kiddos continue to enjoy these small moments! Thank you again for thinking of me and my kiddos. We appreciate your generosity more than words could ever say!”

I am so excited and eager to welcome 24 bright smiling faces into my classroom this fall. I teach 4th grade at a Title 1 school in Norfolk, VA. Many students in our school come from low-income households. This has many implications academically. It is my desire that my classroom is a place where ALL students come to feel loved and to have an equal opportunity to learn and grow. No matter the challenges they face, my students come to school wanting to succeed and I want to do everything I can to help them do just that!
