  • Breaking News!

    Funded Dec 11, 2019

Thank you so much for your generosity. My students have had an awesome opportunity learning how to work a camera and take beautiful pictures around campus. We are now learning how to record so we can expand our morning announcement videos. They were so excited when they opened the package, the moment it arrived. My students felt like official photographers and videographers. They have obtained such a big ownership and sense of responsibility by having a professional camera. They are normally used to using old tablets to record. Once again, thank you for giving my students this opportunity.”

  • Teamwork Makes the Dreamwork

    Funded Jul 12, 2019

When students are physically fit, they will achieve more academically. Keeping our students healthy while teaching them invaluable lessons in character building is the core behind SoHo's sports program. Thanks to your donations, our sports program has to opportunity and equipment to expand and reach students across all grade levels in our school.

When our students first saw the new sports equipment, they immediately started asking what date the first season was to begin. They are so excited to feel and look like a real team. Thank you donors!”

  • Technology Is in Our Future

    Funded May 19, 2019

We are so grateful that we were able to get 2 new laptops for our classroom! Technology is quickly becoming essential in today's classrooms as we strive to teach students 21st century skills.

Integrating technology in the classroom allows us to connect with students of all learning styles while keeping them engaged. Students are able to collaborate with their classmates through technological applications such as google classroom. They are also able to present their ideas and findings which is what they are most excited about this year. We can't thank our donors enough for this opportunity!”

  • Basketball Dreams

    Funded Aug 2, 2019

My students have been so excited about this new equipment! They have approached this new season with a renewed passion. Being able to have equipment to train and gain agility and speed skills has proven to be extremely beneficial. I am so excited to see what the rest of the season and sports year has in store for all of our student athletes. Our next step I also starting an agility club so more students get use of the equipment and are able to train for basketball in the off season. We cannot wait to get better and improve every day!”

  • STEM Summer Institute

    Funded Apr 18, 2019

Path Summer Institute was an intensive week of in-person professional development in Computer Science and Making. I chose the Tynker Coding for Kids because I believe that computer science is an important skill that needs to be integrated into our curriculum.

Modules included introductions to Tynker's platform, curriculum, and approach to assessment; foundational Computer Science concepts; coding pedagogy; best practices for building inclusive classrooms; and ideas for fostering creativity and a Maker mindset.

The highlight of this PD was learning how to get your students excited with physical computing projects like flying drones, controlling Spheros, and programming LEGOs. I was involved in a coding competition and even won a drone to take back home to my classroom! Thank you to my donors for making this experience possible for me. I cannot wait to integrate everything that I learned this upcoming school year.”

  • Social Emotional Awareness

    Funded May 13, 2019

This conference was one of the best and most insightful seminars that I have ever attended! Now more than ever, social emotional learning has to be moved to the forefront of education. Our students need to learn and know that their feelings are valid and that there are strategies to help cope with different situations and work towards building a classroom community.

The highlight of this event was working along with the facilitators and other fellow teachers to come up with strategies to put in our "teacher toolbox" to help teach social emotional learning. I cannot wait to put these best practices into work and begin focusing more on social emotional learning.”

  • Broken Backboard

    Funded Feb 8, 2019

My student athletes and I were beyond excited to receive our brand new backboards! Previously, we were using a broken backboard that was held together by duct tape and we were scared to raise and lower the hoop in fear of breaking it even more. With these newly installed backboards, we are able to run basketball season for all of the grade and raise and lower the hoop appropriately for the students. When my students first saw the backboards, they were beyond excited; especially because they were installed the first day of basketball season. We hope that little by little we can keep remodeling and making our courts better. Thank you so much to everyone that shared, donated, and supported us!”

  • Let's Score Some Goals!

    Funded Jul 19, 2018

After the hurricane that affected our state last year, our old soccer goals collapsed and were unsafe for the kids to use. With the start of a new soccer season ahead of us, we are beyond ecstatic to receive brand new goals that are easy to store in case of bad weather. The excitement on our athletes' faces was evident when they first saw the goals and were able to practice with them. They are compact, light, and perfect for our school. We are ready to take on our soccer season and take care of our field and new equipment. Thank you again!”

  • Virtual Reality Math Lab

    Funded Sep 10, 2018

Our class is beyond excited with the arrival of our ipod touches. Many have said they have never been able to experience any type of virtual reality games so this is a band new and exciting opportunity for them! We have a technology station in our centers, but it has always been limited to the use of laptops. Now, we finally have a chance to give our students the opportunity to use the technology that 2018 has to offer. We are forever grateful to be able to provide our students with opportunities that extend to their interests and likes beyond the classroom. Technology is so prevalent in our world today and we want our students to be able to experience everything that it has to offer. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.”

  • Going for the Gold!

    Funded Jun 7, 2018

My students and I are beyond ecstatic with our new soccer uniforms! We are going to be the best looking team in Homestead, especially when we are able to customize the jerseys before our season starts. When my students first saw the materials, they were so eager to begin trying them on and start choosing their numbers. We are ready to take on our new season and look sharp in our new custom uniforms. My students are so happy to represent our small school from South Homestead. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Bernal

My students are some of my favorite little human beings! They come to school every day with enthusiasm and a willingness to learn. As a title one school, the majority of my students are on free or reduced lunch. Many don't have the materials necessary to take on the school day. I strive to find ways to make my classroom feel like home and provide every student with what they need to be successful.
