  • Hot in Montana

    Funded Apr 5, 2025

Thank you so much for donating to our project. It will help cool the classroom significantly and we have already had some really hot days. Plus, we have a few school days in June this year and those tend to be the worst! Not this year though! We will be the "cool" classroom.”

  • Art Essays For English Class

    Funded Mar 25, 2025

Students have been excited about checking the mail and helping to sort deliveries into group boxes (seen in the photographs). They have been checking out the items that other students selected for their art essays and even talked about sharing the extra supplies with one another. All things that make a teacher's heart swell!

This will be a great project as we finish the last quarter of the year and maneuver class around spring program practice, assorted trips, and saying, "Goodbye", to our graduates.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Barr

  • Special Requests

    Funded Jan 22, 2025

Thank you so much for contributing to our classroom project for student special requests. One student came in today and saw the box of supplies and asked if it was okay to look at the materials. That student was pretty excited to discover items that they had put on the special request list and wanted to know when we can start using them.

It put a smile on my face and made the last period on a cold February Monday extra special for a student. I look forward to sharing our special delivery with the rest of my students this week.”

  • Hodge Podge Ii

    Funded Dec 4, 2024

Thank you so much for supporting this project. It helps fill several "needs" and "wants" in our classroom and will continue to be used for many years into the future! My STEM class will start a unit on making heat packs when we return from winter break. Items from this project and a previous project will help make this project go smoothly. My STEM class also works on an independent makerspace project every Friday. A big request has been creating solar powered devices and/or vehicles. Students will now be able to use items in the 4 in 1 kits to design their own solar powered objects. I am also excited that we restocked our supply of fingerpaints for our youngest learners to explore different textures and temperatures during art class!”

  • Science and STEM

    Funded Nov 14, 2024

Thank you for your generous donations! Students in both my Elementary/Middle School STEM class and High School ELA class used the testing strips to determine if they were super tasters! The best of this activity for me, as the teacher, was to watch the engagement of all students in the testing process and the hilarious facial responses!

My STEM class is now immersed in the world of magnets: determining the poles of different types of magnets and working with magnetic levitation to create a MagLev vehicle.”

  • Reading in Montana!

    Funded Aug 23, 2024

Dear Superintendent Elsie Arntzen and Montana OPI,

Thank you for the opportunity to create a project for reading materials to use with my high school English Language Arts class. Evidence-based practice suggests that students learn when lessons are engaging and materials meet their needs. My high school students began this year with a choice of three different units to start the year and selected DonorsChoose materials are being used based on the selected unit. These materials are of high interest and meet the unique needs of each student. I am seeing maximum participation from students and noticing growth already!”

    With gratitude,

  • Improving Mental Health in the Classroom and Beyond!

    Funded Aug 21, 2024

Dear Google.org Teen Mental Health Initiative,

Thank you for supporting mental health in the classroom for high school students. The books and materials are already making an impact in my high school English Language Arts class. We had a brief discussion about how there have been very recent changes to the ways that we discuss mental health and how there are more safe spaces for these types of conversations.

We have already used some of the activities in the books and in addition to some deep conversations, we have had some activities that have left students and adults laughing so hard that we were all crying!”

  • Easy Access Paper For Art

    Funded Apr 12, 2024

Thank you for donating to our "Easy Access Paper for Art" project. This project has made it so much more accessible for students to get their own butcher paper in four different colors. It can be easily accessed from the closet and at a perfect height for all students. Previously, students had little to no access to rolls that were stored in 5 gallon buckets. It typically required having the teacher get out the roll because they are too heavy and cumbersome for most students. In addition, this provides butcher paper for the whole building!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Barr

  • Decor and More!

    Funded May 11, 2024

Thank you for supporting our Decor and More project. Students will be surprised by our new classroom theme, which will be the outdoors. In general, our building will also be focusing on the Expanded Core Curriculum (ECC) with our classroom and building decorations so that there is a reminder everyday in every classroom and hallway about the importance of ECC for students with visual impairments or that are blind.

In the "More" category of the project, we also have some additional print filament made of different materials (like nylon) to make stronger builds.”

  • Fun in Art with Paper and STEAM

    Funded Mar 27, 2024

Thank you for your generous donation to our "Fun in Art with Paper and STEAM". Students have been enjoying having a wider selection of colors for butcher paper in our building.

Probably the highlight of this project has been the Inflatable Aero Dancers. I taught this lesson separately to each of my art students, due to the busyness of the end of the school year. This gave each student some independent time with the teacher and made the projects even more special. In addition to the aero dancer, students learned about airflow and how to use the fan to make a basket with a Styrofoam ball and how to juggle two Styrofoam balls.”

This project will give students the opportunity to: learn about puppet construction; create a variety of puppets; and practice with some commercially made puppets. Students will be creating shadow puppets, sock puppets, finger puppets, sack puppets, paper mache puppets, marionettes, etc. Students will also be exploring the art of making hand shadow. Older students will be able to document their creations in their electronic portfolios. The culminating activity will be for students to write, practice, and perform in a puppet show for students and staff in our school and also online for students that may be learning from home.
