I have the privilege of working with a small group of special education students with very individual needs. My classroom is a functional academic classroom in an urban district. Many students qualify for free or reduced lunch. In my class, students work on academics, life skills, art projects, vocational skills, and transition skills. My students have the ability to attend activities in the community (such as dining out, taking the city bus, shopping, etc) to assist with their learning of critical life skills. My students are motivated to try new things. Students enjoy working on a variety of vocational and transition activities to prepare them to participate fully in their community after high school graduation.
