My students are on the autism spectrum ranging from academically gifted to nonverbal. They receive speech therapy, occupational therapy, and physical therapy services. They use words, pictures, and sign language to communicate. Currently, the self-contained, or "separate setting" classroom is their least restrictive environment. They spend their entire day in the special education classroom receiving Math, English/ Language Arts, Science, Social Studies, Writing, Social Skills, and Daily Living Skills. Some students display severe behaviors, while other students' behaviors are mild. My paraeducators and I work each day to ensure a safe and successful learning environment.
