Nearpod for Learning Near and Far
Funded Oct 1, 2020My students and I are so happy with to have received access to the Nearpod website. It has impacted our planning and instruction in a major way. The Nearpod lessons are engaging, interactive, and differentiated which make it easier to plan lessons and activities for our community of learners. It provides direct instruction, fill-in-the-blank/sentence frames, and drawing activities to allow students different modalities to express their understanding. My students especially enjoy the draw-it activities. It is so exciting for my remote students to feel a part of the school community by having the opportunity to log in to a Nearpod lesson using the simple code and have access to the slides and the lesson activities as I am presenting it to the in-house students. They can view everyone's responses and drawings and enjoy communicating with one another using this platform.
The students are so excited to start their lessons and engage with the videos and interesting reading passages found in the Nearpod Library. Including the draw-it, the poll questions, and interactive games and quizzes has kept them engaged and excited about learning and building their English proficiency.
Thank you so much for donating to this project and supporting our classroom. It has really raised student engagement and curiosity and has also helped with planning for remote and In-house English Language Learners!”

Funded Sep 11, 2020My students and I are so happy with our wire shelf unit. It has made such a huge difference in our classroom organization. The students really enjoy being able to access our classroom games, headphones, and other instructional materials that are housed on the beautiful shelves. We have some storage at the bottom that holds worksheets and passages that our students have access to now. The games and other fun educational items look great and the room really looks so much more inviting with these items on display. When my 1st graders came in the room, they were so excited to see the games they missed playing while we were away from the school building.
The students were so eager to complete their assignments so they could have time to play some of the educational games and explore the other items on the shelves. We used to store these items way up on the top of our classroom closets which had an out of sight out of mind affect. The students didn't see the materials so they weren't as excited to get to use them. Displaying these items reminds the students that learning can be fun and engaging.
Thank you so much for donating to this project and supporting our classroom. It has really bettered our classroom environment and has raised the levels of student engagement to make our room a much more inviting space.”

Beautiful Book Bins
Funded Sep 16, 2020My students and I are in love with our heavy-duty book bins from Lakeshore. They have made such a difference in the organization of our classroom library. The students really enjoy looking through the bins and finding all the leveled books. We also are using some of the bins to house our themed books and the students love looking through to find books they are interested in. When I picked up my 2nd graders the other day, they were so excited to see the new bins and were impressed with the colors and all the books being labeled.
The students jumped right into the bins, looking for books in Spanish, books on friendship, and books on reading level H. The students were so happy to see all of them organized. Our old bins were not as large and could not hold all of our books. The students commented on the number of books we had and how cool it is to see all of them in the different bins.
Thank you so much for donating to this project and supporting our classroom. For next steps, we are working on obtaining a license to create Nearpod accounts. We received Chromebooks and hope to use our technology along with our beautiful books to keep our students engaged in school and working to improve their English proficiency.”

Using Chromebooks to Support ELLs
Funded Feb 19, 2020This chrome book has been such a wonderful addition to our classroom! The students love to use it during groups and when working independently. The students use the chrome book to access informational videos on websites such as BrainPop and NatGeo. Especially now, as we are currently working on writing informational text, the students use the chrome book to research the topics they want to write about and gather information.
The most exciting part is how the students are now able to have their own chrome book to use instead of having to share all of the time. It helps them to work independently. They plug in the head phones and get right to work!
My 1st grade group has a student that has taken quite a liking to the chrome book. She likes to research topics and share what she finds with her peers and I. She has really started to show more interest in our activities now that she can use the chrome book to assist. Thanks so much for helping making this possible!”
