• Feminine Hygiene Products

  Thank you so much for your generous donation. This purpose of this project was to supply our schools "free store" with feminine hygiene products. Every woman has a memory of being caught off guard by an unexpected period- our project was to create a stash of products in a central location where girls could access them. We also wanted to have a large amount so if a family cannot afford feminine products there would be some to take home. Every day students miss school because they don't have access to feminine hygiene products we want all of our students to be confident and comfortable enough to attend school daily!”

• We Love Books!

  I am absolutely humbled by your generosity to my classroom and most importantly my students. My students don't like to get noticed and specialize in flying under the radar so it is heartwarming to see their response when they find out that people they don't even know care enough about their education to donate money for brand new books. I am excited that these new books have diverse characters and will allow them to see kids that they recognize. When kids have access to books that reflect their lives it helps them become better readers!

• We Need Feminine Hygiene Supplies

  Today the secretary opened the box from Amazon and saw that it was filled with female hygiene products and immediately started to laugh. She called me down to the office to see what was going on. I told her that about the Donors Choose project and she thought it was a really great idea. She told me that girls often come to the office looking for female hygiene products and they were thinking that they were going to have to start charging a fee. Nobody is laughing about this now. =)

• We Need Fiction And Nonfiction Books!

  Because of your generous donation our project was funded. The books arrived in our classroom last week and we have already started reading Every Day by David Levithan and we are in love with this book! We love that this book has a science fiction quality to it.

  After we are done with Every Day we are going to move on to the book by Temple Grandin. It will be awesome to read about someone whose disability allowed them to think different and start a career from that.

  It is so great to know that there are people from all around the country that want to help us get access to great books!”

• Diverse Books for Diverse Students!

  We are so excited that we were able to add twenty five books to Ms. Bakke's book cart. When we have silent reading every Wednesday students know that they can grab a book that they are interested in. Sometimes kids think that they will just grab any old book but when they open these new and exciting titles we know they will be hooked. When we were picking which books to request we looked for books that have been published in our lifetimes. We also looked for books that kids like us would find interesting.

• Diverse Titles For Diverse Students!

  The other day my mom said, "Heather will do anything to get books into the hands of her students." I know that you too share that mentality. Thanks to your generous donation I was able to add a bunch of books to my student library. Our school library was hit by budget cuts last year and was only allowed to order one book a month. I wanted to make sure that the students at our school continued to have access to new and interesting books that tackled topics that they are interested in. The books at a school should be a diverse as the students that read them.

• Fill Our School Pantry

  I wish you could have been there to see all the boxes of food being delivered into our food pantry. It felt like Christmas in September. Unpacking the boxes I knew that all of these food items would be going to kids who were hungry. It makes me feel good knowing that if kids are hungry during the day they will have a place to go to get a snack. Students will also be able to take snacks home for the weekend.

  Students are more successful when they have their basic needs met. Thanks to your generosity we will be able to reach out to students who need help.

• Reading About Social Justice!

  Thank you so much for your generous donation. Representative John Lewis was in the news at the time of the inauguration being badmouthed by President-Elect Trump. Hearing Trump's angry dismissal of John Lewis' legacy made it important for students to see the other side of the story. What exactly has John Lewis accomplished. Reading the three novels of March allowed my students to see the incredible road blocks that many states put in front of the African American citizens to keep them from voting. These books are also a testament of the incredible strength, passion, and faith John Lewis and others had to knock these roadblocks down.”

• Help Us Fill Our School Pantry!

  Thank you so much for your amazing generosity! Thanks to you we were able to help stock the student store with dearly needed items. It was so awesome to do this project for our fellow students. We know that it is really hard to be a teenager but it is even harder to be a teenager when you don't have the basic necessities of life. It was really amazing to see the eyes of our fellow students when they saw all the new stuff that was available to them in the store. Those smiles are there because of you!”

• We Are Drawn To Read!

  Thank you so much for your generous donation to my classroom project. Because of you the students of my school will have access to more books! The students have been requesting more graphic novel titles. The purpose of this project was to get more of these books into my classroom library. My classroom library is open to any students at the school. Each Wednesday we have a thirty minutes of silent sustained reading and I pull a book cart (another Donor's Choose funded project) into the hallway so the students will have quick access to books. When these books went on to the cart they were gone like hot cakes and returned quickly to give other students access to these great books.
