  • Wordly Wise: Lessons in Vocabulary

    Funded Aug 19, 2021

We have been using our Wordly Wise Vocabulary set for an entire month. My students absolutely love the program. Every morning, we sit together and discuss the current week's vocabulary words. The program allows my students to define words using their own background knowledge, in the context of a sentence from the story provided and by using picture clues. The best part is the discussion that takes place during the lesson.

As you know, language is acquired by use. Vocabulary is strengthened by exposure and usage. It brings me much joy and excitement to hear my students using newly acquired vocabulary words throughout the day. I even caught one scholar refer back to one of the stories to help explain the meaning of a word to a peer. This is all because of your donation to our project.

Thank you so much for helping to support vocabulary growth in my class. I see a difference already and it has only been a month.”

  • Back In The Building With Diversity And Inclusion In Mind!

    Funded Feb 10, 2021

My heart is filled with so much gratitude for the joy you have given my scholars. I wish you could have heard the "oohs and aahs" as I showed my scholars the packages. We opened the boxes together and they all claimed which book they wanted to read. I love how they just could not wait to choose a book.

The first thing we did after looking at each book's front cover was read Sulwe. My scholars reacted as if they were in the story encouraging both of the characters. Their discussion was impressive and they even offered advice.

Thank you so much for providing 29 amazing books about diversity, empathy, feelings, and families.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Gibbons

  • Little Learners Learn Best through Hands On Experiences!

    Funded Oct 17, 2020

As I sit and type this Impact letter, I am amazed by the resilience and perseverance my kindergarteners have demonstrated this school year. Never in a million years would I have imagined teaching 5 year olds how to read, write, count, add, and subtract all from a computer while effectively modeling empathy and partnership. This is truly an abnormal time we have transitioned into for education. Because of your donation, the job has been made a bit easier.

Each one of my scholars was given a take home bag with materials from our project to use during online instruction. They have been using the letters make connections with sounds and to create cvc words. This has helped them blend and segment sounds by giving them tangible letters to see and touch. My kindergarteners use their math counters and ten frames to create number stories, group amounts, and practice counting up to 100. They are able to show 1 less, 1 more, and explain their math thinking.

Kindergarten is the time when we nurture and encourage mathematical and literacy development. You have helped to bring the materials from the classroom into the homes of my kiddies. We are forever grateful to you.”

  • I Can Read Clearly Now. The Fuzz Is Gone!

    Funded Aug 11, 2020

We have been using the materials received from your donation for Virtual Instruction. I must say it has made a world of a difference during this chaotic and stressful time. Being able to give my scholars access to top quality foundational literacy skills has been less of a challenge with the use of the document camera, digital writing pad, and magnetic dry erase easel that you helped to purchase. Not to mention, each scholar was able to be given their very own copy of sight words for practice.

Because of your donation, I have been able to share the books listed in our project directly on the screen for my scholars to see as I read aloud to them. They are all able to enjoy the pictures and track the text during whole group Team Meetings. I use the digital writing pad to show precise letter formation, identify words, and accurately write sentences for my scholars.

Kindergarten is the time when we nurture and encourage literacy development. You have helped to take the fuzz out of reading.”

  • Read It. Explain It. Write It.

    Funded Mar 6, 2020

I am so excited to share the news with you. We have only been in school for two weeks. Since then, my kindergarteners have enjoyed showing up to "virtual school". They are excited to engage in story-time, share their personal experiences, complete their assignments, take pictures and show off their work. Today one of my scholars said, "Ms. Gibbons, I want to tell you something. I love school. I love seeing my friends and learning new things. I love seeing the science books." My heart melted. Teaching virtually is not easy, but knowing my students are enjoying what they are learning makes it all worth.

The materials we received have made sharing my content on my screen easier. I was able to show in real time the correct way to form letters using the draw pad. The dry erase easel allows me to track student progress, record their points so that they can see it, and it allows me to offer additional personalized support right in my home. My students have been able to follow my lead by watching what I write on the dry erase board. They can clearly see what I write and are able to copy it in their at home notebooks. I am currently in the process of creating a take home bag with the journals purchased. As soon as we are able to receive the rest of the materials, my students will have manipulatives for math, too!

I must say thank you again! This year is starting off on a good note considering we are living during a pandemic that has caused many changes. The one thing I'm happy about is my students being happy to sign on for their daily lessons.”

  • Reading Is FUNdamental.

    Funded Mar 2, 2020

Thank you! Thank you! My scholars were very fortunate to have access to the literacy quickies prior to the pandemic closing our school doors. It was amazing to watch them happily work in small groups discussing text features, identifying new words, and showing comprehension of informational passages.

At the first and second grade levels, vocabulary knowledge increases and they use their foundational skills to deepen their understanding of texts. The literacy quickies made it fun for them to learn about suffixes/prefixes, shades of meaning, and to apply this new information to the texts they read. I was able to notice that my students participated in more text focused conversations.

Your support with this project has helped to keep my scholars engaged and interested in reading. Thank you so much for giving my scholars access to these materials!”

  • Headphones, Please.

    Funded Feb 29, 2020

Thank you so much for your generous donation. I am so happy to share that my scholars LOVED their headphones. Each pair of headphones were welcomed with oohs and aahs. Scholars could not wait to claim their very own classroom headphones. Fortunately, we were able to use them consistently up until mid-March.

Instructional time was maximized because each scholar had their own individual headphones. The headphones helped my scholars focus and complete their assignments. Scholars created stories and worked on personalized computer lessons. The headphones helped to increase student engagement and excitement.

We truly appreciate you helping our class receive a very necessary and important tool for us to improve our teaching/learning.”

  • I Am Me! The World Is My Canvas

    Funded Jul 29, 2019

You have done it again! My students are extremely privileged to have your support with bringing technology to our classroom. At first they thought they would be using the iPads for games. After being shown all the cool features used to create, they love making their own clips and narrating their own stories. It's fantastic!

Your donations have made it possible for me to expose my students to creation. They see that the world as their canvas and they can use their brains to come up with new ideas. The iPads you provided are valuable tools in helping my students bring their ideas to life.

    Thank you so much!!!!!”

  • "Our Whole Life Is Solving Puzzles." Erno Rubik

    Funded Dec 31, 2018

It is with gratitude that I am writing this letter. As I sit in my classroom, I am observing my scholars happily working together. They are partnered in their small groups to complete the puzzles in front of them. Each student is helping to manipulate pieces and place them in their designated spot. I am impressed by their use of trial and error. Together, they are problem solving.

When the puzzles first arrived, my students were in awe. They saw the unopened boxes in our classroom and immediately asked, "What is that Ms. Gibbons?" During morning meeting, we had our big reveal. My students drum rolled as I opened each box. They could not wait to use our new puzzles. During the reveal, my kindergartners excitedly discussed who was going to use what puzzle first.

These puzzles have made a difference in my students. I am noticing that they are more mindful and more willing to take risks. Prior to having puzzles in my classroom, it was a challenge to get my students to try for fear of being wrong. The puzzles that you helped to purchase for my classroom allow my students to work together, problem solve, and to feel successful. Thank you so much for using your money to help fund an extremely valuable classroom resource.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Gibbons

  • Life is a Matter of Choices

    Funded Aug 5, 2018

My students and I would like to thank you so much for giving us the gift of choice. When my students first walked into their brand new kindergarten classroom, they were excited by the colors and the many options to chose from. Their face lit up with glee and curiosity. For the first few days, they couldn't help but ask can I use this? Imagine a room with 17 active boys and girls of different sizes, backgrounds, and interests. Imagine that these eager little learners are all working diligently to complete tasks in a colorful room with a variety of seating. Envision a classroom with students sitting on carpet squares with their clipboards in their laps, students sitting on stools leaning over a table to assist a peer in need, and students working on their knees using a seat cube to lean on. This is a tiny glimpse of my classroom. Because of your donations, my students are engaged, supportive, and comfortable in their learning environment. Your donation has helped us create a fun, flexible child centered classroom. For this, we are extremely grateful.”
