I have a class of 28 very active students who love to move around as often as possible. Providing students with opportunities to learn in a comfortable environment not only makes it more enjoyable, but it also makes it more manageable. With this project, I am asking for different seating options for my students, such as scoop chairs, stools, balance balls, cushions, and tables.
Rather than confining kids to traditional tables and chairs, teachers are giving students lots of different seating options so that students can take control of their learning and find a classroom workspace that feels best to them.
I believe that with flexible seating in the classroom there will be a change in my students’ commitment to learning and behavior. Being comfortable will allow the student to stay vested in the task and their behavior will be as equally positive. With the small amount of flexible seating options we currently have, students are willing to work with others, share ideas and move around the room.
