Funded Dec 1, 2020Thank you very much for helping to support my class. The children were so excited to receive all of the resources that they would use during their remote learning. We used the wipe board and markers every day during our Zoom morning meetings. The construction paper, scissors and glue kits were great for the children to create various projects throughout the school year such as our 3D homes and animal habitats. We used the soft cover books to create a book about what they have learned all year. Everyone were so excited to show off their book at the end of the school year Zoom.”

Funded Apr 2, 2019My students and I can not thank you enough for all your generosity and support in our project. It really warms my heart that donors like you understand and appreciate how important it is to stimulate our students' imagination, creativity and confidence through the use of puppets. Though the use of the puppets, my class has been more interested in retelling the stories and sharing their new versions of the stories with their friends.
The children have enjoyed using these puppets in the classroom. They were eager to look through all of the puppets as they were able to explore with. They used the felt boards throughout the year in the library area. For example, while learning about transportation, they enjoyed pretending to fly the air planes or hot air balloons over the cars while making the sounds of these vehicles. The children also used the storytelling puppets to retell and even change up their favorite stories with their friends. Many times while drawing pictures of a story, the children would search for the puppets in the library to help them finish their drawings and be able to explain the story with their puppets with actions and short phrases.
I hope to be able to use the puppets in my fully remote classes as well when we explore these stories together once our buildings open up again.”

Ms. Gonzalez
STEAM Opportunities in Pre-Kindergarten
Funded Dec 5, 2018Words can hardly begin to express my thanks and appreciation. Your support has allowed me to move my classroom forward with the hands-on tools they needed to fully explore, question and use their problem solving skills in their learning.
During our units of study, the children have been so excited to use all of these materials. Our homes and transportation units were even better this year with the use of all those Legos that were donated as well as the Building Brick STEM Challenge Kit which had the students problem solve various ways to create a structure such as home, vehicle or bridge. For our light unit, the light table manipulative center was more than we could imagine! My students explored with the concepts of translucent, transparent and opaque by using the materials in the center. They especially enjoyed mixing various colored objects, to see what would happen after making a prediction of the color two colors together would change into. From exploring with sink vs float, absorb vs repel, etc., my students have been able to use the wicker baskets, seashells, Design & Build water blocks and fishing rods with magnetic fish to explore water.
Thank you so much for all your generous donations into making this project a reality. You've helped me build upon my students' love of learning through exploration. Again, thank you so much for all your help!”

Funded Nov 29, 2017Literacy is a very important part of my classroom. We focus on literacy through the use of books as well as technology. Technology has a big impact in our everyday lives and it certainly has played a role in my students' learning. We use our Promethean Board almost everyday by showing visuals of topics that we are learning about such as various types of people and animal homes, matching games as well as a large version of books that I have created for the class to help them learn about the unit of study. Even though most of my students can't read yet, they love looking at pictures and telling their friends what they see. For most of my students who are learning the language for the first time, it is extremely important for them to listen to books being read in order to make the connection between the pictures and the text. One of my students' favorite time of the day is our read aloud before lunch where I will read an Elephant and Piggie book from our Mo Willems' collection and use different voices for each character. They love repeating after me in the character's unique voice as well. My students even browse through these books on their mats before falling asleep.
Our iPad is another great addition to our classroom, especially for my students who are learning the language for the first time. When working on the iPad, two children are taking turns using various apps such as ABCmouse. They are able to see pictures of objects, hear the name of the object and sing along to the various songs when playing literacy games. Besides working on educational apps, we have been able to use the google translate app on the iPad to communicate more with the students. Several of our students have been wanting to share their ideas with us all year, even attempting to have a conversation with their teacher or classmates in their first language. Unfortunately, since their first language is not English, they are unable to share their ideas with as much detail. When first presented with a translated question in their own language while using the Google translate app, the children were eager to answer quickly in their language. You can see their confidence rising every time they pick up the iPad to speak into it. The students have even been using through center time to speak in their own language and translate it to English in order to communicate with their classmates.
Thank you so much for all your generous donations into making this project a reality. You've helped me build my students' confidence and self-esteem while giving them the opportunities to express their thoughts and ideas in a fun and creative way! Again, thank you so much for all your help!”

Ms. Gonzalez
