  • Fall Fest FUNdraiser Needs Festive Activities

    Funded Oct 10, 2022

Thank you for giving our students the supplies and equipment they need to make their fundraisers more fun, and cost efficient. Owning their own event supplies means more money in their pocket for their end of year events. They'll no longer need to rent karaoke machines or carnival games. And they'll also have some super fun prizes to distribute to guests!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Angela

  • Life's a Stitch, Sew Our Students Will Start a Business!

    Funded Sep 6, 2022

Thank you, thank you, thank you! Our students will love all these supplies and will put them to good use. I really appreciate how quickly this was funded, it will make the start of our Adolescent Community's business much more exciting. I'll be sure to snap pictures of them opening everything and using all the supplies! Thanks again!”

  • Sew We Go Camping 2.0

    Funded Feb 28, 2022

Wow! Your donations to our students really made a difference! They had a successful camping trip, and they created costumes for both a Lion King performance and a Black History month performance.

So many of our students didn't have all the supplies needed for our camping trip. With the sleeping bags and tents you helped supply, all our children had the personal equipment they needed to attend. They used the camp stove for breakfast and dinner, had flashlights and lanterns to navigate the dark campground, and our chaperones were happy to have coffee that our students made with the French press.

Dozens of students learned to sew and created costumes with the machines and supplies you donated. They created their own patterns and learned to use rotary cutters. They also had fun making personal items like scrunchies, pouches, bandanas, and some made potholders for Mother's Day gifts.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Angela

  • A-Camping We Will Go!

    Funded Apr 25, 2022

Your donations to our students helped put the final touches on what they needed for their camping trip. Items like grill brushes, towels, dish soap, and dust pans helped keep our canteen area clean and tents tidy. Whistles and medical kits were a necessity to keep us safe and healthy.

This camping trip is a very important part of our Upper Elementary's curriculum. They plan for it all year, and the items you helped get for them made it a success. Many of our students have never camped before, so doing this was very special for them. Know that you helped make that possible for them and that I'm extremely grateful for that. I love seeing our students meet the challenges of sleeping, cooking, and living in the woods! Thank you!”

    With gratitude,

Thank you again for your generous donations. We're now to ready begin our sewing projects, and work on more baking projects. Most of our projects and baked goods will be used for fundraising for the middle school end of year overnight trip. More pictures to come as we complete everything!”

  • Baltimore City Students Create a Micro-Economy for Community Building Events

    Funded Nov 11, 2019

We sincerely thank you! My students' first fundraiser was wildly successful due to their enthusiasm, hard work, and from the generosity of you! I wish you could have seen them as they saw the piles of boxes that had arrived for them. As they opened them, there were multiple comments about how everything they put on their "perfect" wish list had been delivered. They had several wish lists for their Thanksgiving fundraiser, "perfect", "realistic", and "it'll do" lists. Because they fished their perfect list, they could make everything on their task list, which included scratch made pies, homemade cranberry sauce, fresh coffee and hot chocolate for guests, and marketing posters and signs.

My students made and sold over 50 pies made from scratch from pie shell to filling, and 60+ jars of delicious cranberry sauce. Using the large urns and all the supplies such as creamers and sugar caddies that were donated, they sold countless cups of coffee to visiting parents, and even more hot chocolate to our students. Donated mason jars held homemade cranberry sauce. They also learned the value of marketing their product as they made posters, flyers, and emails which looked professional and interesting. They used card stock and poster board from you for posters. Donated stencils and markers created a beautiful chalkboard menu at their sale.

They learned many lessons from the obvious cooking lessons, to using math to increase recipes, and budgeting for ingredients. Most importantly, in my opinion, they learned how to work together in teams by listening to each other, problem solving, drawing on each other's strengths, and learning when to yield. My students are even more enthusiastic now to create more fundraisers and events for their classmates. They have more ideas beyond cooking such as crafting and sewing that they want to add to their agenda. We plan to continue with our baking and cooking, and add some simple sewing projects for our next sale. Stay tuned and look out for student made scrunchies for those VSCO girls!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Angela

Our events have and will range from well attended school wide Fall Festivals, made from scratch bake sales (including our upcoming Thanksgiving pie & cranberry relish sale - can you say homemade crust! YUM!!!), coffee shops, and craft sales. Until students have established themselves and their business is self sufficient, they need start-up materials for marketing, and basic equipment and supplies to run events. We wish to create a program that will teach the full spectrum of a business plan with a goal of financing their end of year community trip which many of our families could not afford otherwise. This will involve planning each fundraiser, assigning jobs, running & creating all aspects of the the event they choose, and finally assessing its effectiveness with simple costs vs. income accounting. Students will need art supplies to market their products. They need color copy paper to create flyers, and items to make posters like poster board, stencils, card stock and colorful markers. They also need equipment for their coffee and bake shops. Large urns which both percolate and keep coffee and hot chocolate warm are pricey, but essential. Carafes for cream, sugar dispensers, cups, and tablecloths help the coffee shop running smoothly and teach professionalism. While we have a lot of kitchen equipment, peeling apples for dozens of pies is time consuming without specialty tools like apple peelers. With all these thing they will have the tools they need to learn how marketing makes a difference in sales, how to run their events professionally, and afterward they will learn how to apply basic accounting to assess their success.
