  • Print Your Way to Success: Upgrading Our Biology Resources!

    Funded Oct 2, 2024

Thanks to your support, our classroom now has access to a high-quality printer that has made a significant impact on our students' learning experience. The ability to print vibrant, engaging posters and visuals has not only brightened our classroom but also brought our science lessons to life in a way that textbooks alone cannot.

The technology is transforming how students engage with the material. For example, I can now print colorful diagrams, infographics, and educational posters that help break down complex concepts in a visually appealing and easily digestible format. This makes learning more interactive and allows students to better understand key ideas.

What excites our students the most is the visual nature of the materials we can create. They love seeing their classroom filled with visuals that relate directly to their current lessons, and it's clear that they're more motivated to engage with the content. The printer has also allowed for more hands-on, creative projects. Students can now create their own posters and presentations, putting their knowledge into practice and feeling a sense of ownership over their work.

Some students, particularly those who thrive in visual and hands-on learning environments, have especially flourished with the new technology. For instance, one student who previously struggled with traditional worksheets has excelled by using the printer to create custom study materials. Seeing their hard work come to life in vibrant, tangible forms has greatly boosted their confidence and enthusiasm.

Overall, this donation has helped create a dynamic and engaging classroom environment, where students are not just passive learners but active participants in shaping their educational journey. We are truly grateful for your generosity and the positive impact it has had on our classroom!”

  • New Classroom Essentials

    Funded Sep 10, 2024

Thank you so much for supporting my project, New Classroom Essentials! Your generosity has provided my students with the tools they need to succeed, and it has already made a significant difference in our classroom.

When the supplies arrived, my students were absolutely thrilled. They were excited to see the brightly colored pencils, markers, and highlighters, and their enthusiasm was contagious. These materials have brought new energy to our lessons, allowing students to engage with their learning in creative and meaningful ways. One moment that stood out was during our recent activity on the carbon cycle. Students used colored pencils and markers to draw detailed models of the cycle, adding creative flair to represent processes like photosynthesis and cellular respiration. The highlighters have also become a go-to tool as students annotate diagrams and take notes on key concepts, boosting both their understanding and confidence.

These resources have made learning more accessible and interactive for my students. As we move forward, we'll be using these materials to tackle our next big project: designing PSAs and creating scientific models to address the impact of urban heat islands. The supplies will help students visualize and communicate their ideas effectively while fostering their STEM identities and critical thinking skills.

Your kindness has brought joy and inspiration to my classroom, and I am so grateful for your support. You've given my students the tools they need to thrive, and we couldn't have done it without you.”

  • Folder Forward: Igniting Science Engagement!

    Funded Sep 3, 2024

Thank you so much for your generous support of my project, Folder Forward: Igniting Science Engagement! Your contribution has made a tangible impact in my classroom and has significantly enhanced my students' learning experiences.

Students were thrilled to organize their materials into their own personalized folders, and it quickly became a game changer for their accountability and focus. No more scrambling for misplaced papers—everything they need is now at their fingertips, allowing us to dive straight into the heart of our lessons. The whiteboards, too, have been a hit. We've used them to brainstorm ideas, visualize concepts like the carbon cycle and photosynthesis, and even compete in friendly review games. One memorable moment was when students worked in teams to diagram the carbon cycle on their boards and proudly shared their work with the class, showcasing their understanding with creativity and confidence.

These resources have transformed our daily routines and elevated our engagement during projects. For example, as part of our ongoing unit on urban heat islands, students used their folders to organize research on abiotic and biotic factors, while the whiteboards helped them model the albedo effect and brainstorm solutions for mitigating urban heat islands. The visual and hands-on nature of these tools has deepened their critical thinking and collaborative skills.

Thanks to your generosity, my students are thriving in a more organized, dynamic, and interactive learning environment. They are gaining confidence in their abilities and taking ownership of their education. Next, we'll be applying these tools to a Public Service Announcement project, where students will create solutions to environmental challenges, reinforcing their understanding of science while inspiring real-world impact.

We are so grateful for your support in making this possible. Thank you for investing in my students and helping them grow as learners and problem solvers.”

  • Paper Essentials

    Funded May 31, 2024

I am thrilled to share the positive impact your generosity has had on our classroom. Thanks to the laminator, hole puncher, and copy paper you provided, my students are now better equipped to engage with their learning materials in an organized and efficient manner. These essential tools have already begun to transform our classroom environment, making it a more productive and creative space.

The laminator has been a game-changer for us. It allows us to create durable, professional-looking resources that students can use repeatedly without worrying about wear and tear. My students have been particularly excited to see their work showcased in a polished and lasting format. Whether it's a diagram of the water cycle or a reference sheet for a lab activity, the laminated materials not only enhance the visual appeal of our classroom but also make learning more interactive and engaging.

The hole puncher has also played a crucial role in helping students keep their materials organized. Now, students can easily file their handouts and assignments in their folders, which has significantly improved their ability to access and review information. This simple tool has taught them the importance of organization and responsibility, skills that are essential for their academic success and beyond.

One of the most rewarding aspects of this experience has been watching some of my students, who previously struggled with organization, take pride in maintaining their binders and folders. The structure these tools provide has helped them focus more on their learning and less on managing their materials, leading to a more streamlined and effective classroom experience.

Your support has made a tangible difference in our daily routines and has set the stage for my students to excel in their scientific endeavors. Thank you once again for your incredible generosity.”

  • Hygiene Hub: Basic Needs Pantry + Cleaning Supplies

    Funded May 15, 2024

Your support has had a transformative effect on our classroom, and I'm excited to share how your contributions have directly benefited our students.

With your generous donation, we have successfully established a basic needs pantry in our science classroom. This pantry, stocked with feminine pads, a first aid kit, hand sanitizer, tissues, and face masks, has quickly become a vital part of our daily routine. One memorable moment was when a student had a minor cut during a hands-on experiment. The availability of the first aid kit allowed us to address the injury immediately, ensuring the student felt safe and cared for. This proactive approach not only resolved the issue swiftly but also reinforced the importance of self-care and hygiene in our learning environment.

When the students first saw the materials for the basic needs pantry, they were excited and relieved. They appreciated having resources like feminine pads and a first aid kit readily available. The next steps involve integrating these supplies into our daily routine, where students will learn how to use them responsibly. We'll also hold a brief session on the importance of hygiene and safety, ensuring they understand how these items contribute to a healthier learning environment.”

Thank you for visiting my page! I teach science to over 150 students annually at an inner-city public high school in South Central Los Angeles. At the start of each year, many students approach science with uncertainty. To combat this, I aim to inspire them to view science as a gateway to opportunities and integrate real-world problems into lessons. This shows the relevance of science in their lives and how it can be used for social justice, like combating environmental injustice in their communities. Through rigorous content, I guide students in confirming their science identities and embracing their potential for positive change.
