We Like to Move It, Move It! - Skillastics

My students are loving the Skillastics kits! When I first opened up the giant game board and spread it out in the middle of the gym there was an audible "Wow!" from many of them. It is so big and colorful and engaging - they couldn't wait to try it out! Although there is a lot to the game, students were able to work together to figure out what to do. In addition to the fitness and movement benefits, I love that the Character is Cool game has students practicing important positive social behaviors! This will be absolutely fantastic for indoor recess! I also shared the activities with the classroom teachers to use for an active morning meeting to get students engaged at the start of their day.

The Half-Pint Skillastics are so simple and kid-friendly that even my kindergarten students were able to figure out what to do. Whoever designed them knows little children really well - right down to the fact that the cards are made of plastic so they won't tear! There are so many cards that children can play for a fairly long time without the game becoming repetitive. We can easily accommodate a large group and the directions are simple - two musts for indoor recess!

These Skillastics kits fill a real need in our Let's Move Active Schools plan because recess is so important for children and providing a safe, fun and effective indoor recess environment is a huge challenge. These games will be well-used and well-loved during our many indoor recesses in the winter.”
