  • New Library Space!

    Funded Nov 11, 2022

I have been super busy moving the library materials from the old building to a new space. Over the past year the old library space was not being used because of the Pandemic and I was on leave of absence. The old space became musty and moldy and deteriorating. Fortunantly, I am sharing an over sized room with the after school outdoor program. I have utilized a good size area and had bookshelves moved over to create a special enclosed area for this new library. I am very happy with this new space, for it is bright and fresh.

The task of doing this project has kept me busy and I have not had the time to do story time with the younger students, but I did my first story time last Tuesday and book check out day last Thursday. I sure did miss this time with the younger students, and they do love it also! The older students will be coming in next week.

I am still in the weeding process of the older books in the old library, but having the new books that you all donated money for has been a real blessing and the students are excited to have these.

It is starting to look like a real library thanks to your gracious donations!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. April

  • New Books Bring New Joys!

    Funded Dec 22, 2021

I am sorry it took me so long to get this impact letter out to you. It has been a difficult year because I have not been here in the library through the last few months because of the pandemic. Also the students have been in and out of school with the virus issue. Good news, it does look like things are finally getting back to normal school!

So these books that you helped to purchase and get in to the hands of the students are books that were specifically asked for by the students.

The "Amulet" manga series books are loved by the boys for they are graphic novels filled with adventure and excitement. The graphic novels have become a hit with both the students and so of course these are going to be well read!

The "Enola Holmes Mystery" series books are a hit with the girl students for they offer a female heroine with a Sherlock Holmes mystery adventures.

The arts and craft books are well loved by the lower grade classes and I am sure will be loved by the older students also!

I and the students appreciate new books and am grateful for your kindness in donating to our library.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. April

  • "Fall" in Love With Reading!

    Funded Oct 1, 2020

I apologize for being late on updating you on the books you helped purchase for the library. Because the "coronavirus" has effected our school the students have not been on campus. But they are started to begin to comeback slowly and are excited when they see the new books! The cookbooks and the graphic novels are the most popular among the students. They are a happy bunch of kids and love the library and have a big interest in books and love to visit me. I have enjoyed seeing each one of their precious faces and do miss them. Hopefully things will be better by next school year. Again I want to express my gratitude for your generous gifts.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. April

  • Art Projects That Last

    Funded Oct 16, 2019

We have received our cushions and the Laminating machine. The little grades are happy to have the extra cushions to sit on, for we we were short about 5 cushions. Which is great because our little rural school has grown from about 18 students to about 23! We use the cushions for story-time and other activities in which the students have to sit quietly.

We have not used the Laminating machine yet as I need to get it set up and try it out first before I let the students laminate their projects. They are really excited to be able to see how it works and so am I. We are kind of new at technology and so this will be a learning experience for all of us.

Again, thank you so much for your generous donations and I hope you enjoy the pictures of the students...of course some were being silly during picture taking time. ; )”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. April

  • Fun to Read Books!

    Funded Jan 24, 2019

I want to say thank you so much for the library book donations! The students get so excited when they arrive, in fact, as soon as I let them know that we got the donations for the books, I get asked every day, "Are the books here yet?" We depend on donations for new library books since our school is so small and low on funds. We appreciate the ability to receive some of the newly published books that we order.

I have seen an improvement in the reading skills among those students that may struggle with reading and I have observed a passion for books. They have learned to take very good care of the books and to be responsible at returning them so that others can check them out when they are through reading them.

I would have to say that the younger students seem to be more excited about the books, but then when the older students see what has arrived, they get excited about the books too. The graphic novels and action hero books seem to be the most popular.

I posted some pictures of the students holding the books and making thank you cards for the donors...we definitely have created a relaxed, creative and comfortable area for reading in our little library.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. April

  • "Educating thier Hearts along with their Minds"

    Funded Oct 9, 2017

Again I want to thank you for your support by helping to purchase the books and cushions. A good percentage of these books are perfect for what our staff wanted for a focus on this school years character development, in fact, the teachers and students are loving them. I have not been able to keep up with the demand for requests for all these new titles, in fact, I was barely able to enter them into the catalog system before the students came in wanting to check them out. All the other books are a very popular and I have waiting lists for each one especially the graphic novels by Raina Telgemeier!

It is encouraging to see such a great desire to check out and read books. I have a very special group of patrons/students who absolutely love my little library. The little ones always ask me with the cutest little voice, "Can I rent/or buy this book?" when asking to check it out.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. April

  • Creating a World of Knowledge and Imagination

    Funded Jun 6, 2017

The books we received, that you helped us to acquire, are based on subjects that the students asked for. Examples are books about trucks, bunnies, cooking, baking and fictional chapter books etc. A favorite author, Gary Paulsen, writes books that are popular with the upper grades 5th through 8th. The picture books are for the lower grades and they are perfect for story time, which I do every Tuesday with the lower grades.

When the boxes arrived, I let the upper grade students open the boxes of books. They were so excited! I was just as excited and enjoyed watching their faces as they unpacked the new books. Immediately they wanted to check them out. The Dog Man Books and Bad Kitty books are the most popular thus far. I have a waiting list of students waiting their turn to check them out.

When the youngest bunch came in for story time, I showed them the sitting cushions and the new books, for their age group and they too were just as excited and had to get on a waiting lists for those books.

I want to personally thank all of you, this was my first year as a school librarian and to be part of such a generous donation was inspiring and encouraging. We are not alone, we have each other and it is great to know that you people are out there to support and help this generation with learning, reading and exploring.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. April

I am the Librarian at Big Lagoon School, which is a small elementary rural school serving tk-8th grades. We have 23 students that are curious, energetic and love story time and reading. Our school has two classrooms K through 3rd and 4th through 8th. The integrated age groups and small class size make for an individualized learning atmosphere. The library has quite a lot of old and outdated books and I have been busy weeding through them and adding newer books to our collection. Nature is our playground. Within a 5 minute walk, students can be deep in a virgin spruce forest or on the sandy shores of a freshwater lagoon or ocean. This is a special school and the students are special to me. Thank You for any help!
