Students labeled as ESL need hands on learning and concrete experiences to help them make sense of the world around them while socially interacting with others. Through this learning and interaction, these students gain confidence in their use of the English language, their education, and in turn, in themselves. Nothing brings more joy to my students then when they get the opportunity to be little scientists. Research shows that this generation of students learn the best through trial and error and what encourages that more than the opportunity to practice S.T.E.A.M. projects in the classroom? With the products I am requesting, my students will be able to become engineers, artists, scientists, and mathematicians all in the safety of our own classroom. For example, my students will practice their engineering skills with the wooden logs, magnetic building blocks, and legos. Their artistic side can be encouraged using stencils, stamps, and markers. Pop on your scientist hat while using magnifying glasses to explore seasonal items from nature. Lastly, many of these can be combined for multiple types of learning- like play doh for math, science, engineering, and art. This donation will benefit my students' in their entirety and influence their love of learning. The activities I have planned with these items will instill skills into my students that are greatly needed in their field of education. They will also instill a foundational love of learning that will continue into adulthood.
