  • Multicultural Literature to Inspire Life-Long Readers!

    Funded Aug 6, 2010

I can't thank you enough for your generosity! It means so much to me that there are people who care about children and value education like I do. The books you have purchased for my classroom have made an immediate impact. Some of the biographies about important African-American historical figures have been some favorites to check out from our classroom library. As you well know, it is so important for children to see themselves in positive role models and in popular culture. For children, books can be part of popular culture. Seeing pictures of people who look like them and cultural values they can relate to truly validates and affirms who they are. I have no doubt reading these books will have a positive impact on their self-esteem, self-image, and not to mention, their literacy skills! Thank you so much for your contribution to my classroom and to my students' education!”

  • Nutty for Non-Fiction!

    Funded Sep 15, 2009

As a customer of yours, I am so pleased to see that you care about the education of children!  It means a lot to know that my bank is run by people who share the same values and vision for our children that I and educators across the country do.  Thank you so much for your contribution to my class and to my students!

The Time For Kids subscription is so valuable.  So often, non-fiction is overlooked in elementary school.  My students absolutely love non-fiction and are so excited to learn about current events, historical events, and scientific discoveries.  With these magazines, I can prepare my students to read and comprehend the variety of materials they will likely encounter as they grow up.

Thank you so much for your generosity and commitment to giving back.  It means the world to my students and me!”

  • Help Us Become Computer Literate!

    Funded Jul 25, 2009

This is just a small token of my gratitude for your generous donation to my classroom.  The computers you helped purchase have been huge.  Not only are they a hit with the kids, but they are a crucial component to their literacy progress.  We use the computers on a daily basis to log into a reading program.  This particular program allows kids to listen to, read, and answer comprehension questions to stories at their individual reading level.  Additionally, the kids can record their reading.  I use this aspect of the program to assess and monitor their fluency.  We have also used the computers for group research projects.  During a unit on Native Americans, groups were able to print out the information they needed to complete their research.  They thought it was so cool!

My school is in a neighborhood where students do not have access to computers at home.  Having these computers in their classroom, readily available to them, is so beneficial in the technological world we live in.

Your support means so much to my students and me.  Without people like you, so many students would go without.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Alley

  • Help Organize My Classroom!

    Funded Jul 30, 2009

I recently received the materials you so generously bought for my classroom -- a bookshelf and book boxes for my students.  These materials are so important to my students' learning!  The bookshelf speaks for itself - it allows me to expand my classroom library and give my students an opportunity to read hundreds of books.  The book boxes though, are the key to everything my kids do in reading.  Each student has their own book box, in which they choose books for independent reading.  My students feel such ownership over their learning because they are allowed to choose what books they want to read.  They are able to get to know themselves as a reader on so many levels -- their interests, genres they like, as well as monitoring the progress of their own reading level.  It is amazing what seven year old kids can do if you just let them!

I am so humbled by and thankful for your donation to my students' education.  What you did is no small thing, and I will work very hard to make sure your contribution is used effectively!  ”
