Peer(ing), Learning and Moving!
Funded Feb 18, 2013My students and I would like to thank you for your support and donations! With your kind donation, my students now have a special space to work in small groups or pairs during Reader's and Writer's Worskhop. The couch on the quiet corner in the class allows them to have peer conferences and discussions without the interruptions of others. More importantly, my students look forward to being able to sit on the couch because it make them feel important, which in turn, elevates the type of conversation happening between the students.
Once again, we truly appreciate your donations and support!

Preventing Bullying, One Student at a Time
Funded Apr 10, 2012Thank you so much for your generous donations. Through your donations, our class was able to learn about bullying through read alouds and discussions and performing, recording and examining skits and possible scenarios. The Kindles were also a great tool to use with these lessons, because we were able to view other videos and scenarios online as well as read digital stories on bullying and problem solving.
Your kind donations have provided with my students the ability to see what bullying means and looks like in a first grade classroom as well as on the yard. As a class, we have made a list of possible problems and solutions to use when problems arise. Through these lessons, my students have become more self-aware about their behaviors, thus become better friends to each other and better problem solvers.
Once again, thank you for your commitment to education.”

Funded Feb 5, 2012Thank you so much for you generous donations. With your financial contribution my students are now doing their best work using the Kindle Fires. Now that my students have awesome access to technology and the Internet, they are very easily researching topics for presentations and expository writing. Now when they write about their favorite animal or place to visit, they have great facts included in their writing thanks to their Kindle Fires. More importantly, some of my students who were reluctant readers at the beginning of the year, are now fully motivated to learn to read using fun applications with flashcard or read aloud stories.
These Kindle Fires have transformed my classroom, and for this, we are eternally grateful!
Once again, THANK YOU so much for your donations.”

Author Study Corner: Using Mentor Text to Inspire Writers
Funded Jan 27, 2012Thank you so much for your generous donations! With your donations, my students' writing has greatly improved. The book bins purchased through your donations have allowed my students to organize their favorite authors in bins that are easily moved to their desk, which they do during Writer's Workshop when they need inspiration and examples of great writing. These bins have also helped my students keep their "Mentor Text" library organized for easy retrieval of their favorite books. Also, the rolling cart/filing center has been a great addition to our class. My students now have a place to keep their published stories, which have also been used as Mentor Texts by other students. This organizational tool keeps our materials and published writing organized and neat.
The rolling cart and the book bin station have allowed my students to take their writing to a whole new level. My students now see themselves as authors and their work proves it!
Once again, thank you so much!!”

Funded Sep 1, 2011I want to thank you for your generous donation to my classroom. The Document Camera that you donated has positively impacted my students. Now, all my students are eager to share their completed stories with their classmates using the document camera. Since the document camera is used during Writer's Workshop, many of my students also want to share their work-in-progress to get feedback from their classmates using the document camera. The document camera has made it easier to share our work, as well as serve as motivation for my students.
Once again, thank you so much for your donation. Know that you have greatly impacted learning in my classroom in a positive way!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Alcaraz
