Urban Biodiversity Research Project Materials for AP Environmental
Funded Dec 30, 2024I'm so grateful for your generous donations to this project. To involve students in a project that supports their growth as individuals, environmental awareness in the school community, and scientific research is very meaningful. The students will be very excited watch birds come to the feeder outside their classroom window year round, and to assemble their research poster boards in the spring time. Thank you again for the support!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Hays
Supplies to Jump Start Our Garden!
Funded Jan 31, 2019Thank you again for your generous donation to our gardening club. Students have enjoyed filling up their birdhouses with bird seed and placing them in our courtyard. We saw a cardinal a few weeks ago and the bird seed has been quickly consumed each week! Students also had fun creating and painting the stepping stones. They decorated one with a beautiful sun, grass, and flowers and another with the school colors and letters. Before spring break, we used the seeds to begin planting seedlings indoors. Students were especially excited to plant tomatoes, peppers, and a variety of herbs. This week and next week, we will begin moving the seedlings into the beds in the courtyard. Thank you again!”

Chromebooks to Increase Access to Biology Curriculum
Funded Aug 22, 2018Thank you again for your generous donation to our biology classrooms. The students most recently used the Chromebooks during a station activity where they watched a video on acids and bases. Without the Chromebooks, we would have had to watch the video as a whole class which would not have allowed students to learn at their own pace. Many students used the Chromebooks to rewind when information was unclear and to pause when they needed a moment to answer questions.
Students were excited when they initially saw the Chromebooks. They enjoyed taking control of the video and some used even used the Chromebooks to search the web for further information, without being prompted to do so. There were students at each table that "took charge" of operating the Chromebooks. Students were more engaged in the lesson due to this technology.
Next month, we will be writing lab reports. Our computer labs do not have enough computers for the biology class sizes, but the Chromebooks will allow us to equip all students with a computer to produce their report electronically. Students will learn how to create graphs using Google Sheets and Google Docs and we are excited to see them learn further with this technology.
On behalf of the Kenwood biology team, thank you so much again for the opportunities you have provided our biology students.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Hays
