My students learn best when they are presented with material in a variety of different ways. Therefore, my co-teacher and I are are attempting to support the needs of our students through station learning. One of those stations will be computer based. I am asking for four laptops to support this small group setting in the classroom. Research has shown that station learning supports different learning preferences among students, aids in the differentiation of instruction, and helps with more engagement amongst students. Due to accreditation demands in math and English and a lack of technological resources at my school, my students do not often get to have access to forms of technology in a history learning atmosphere. Technology and various resources online help to make history come alive for my students. In addition, many principles of civics and economics can be best illustrated or simulated with technological resources. My students would be able to see visual adaptations and resources on these laptops that support these hard to conceptualize historical references that they sometimes struggle to process. By interacting with videos, doing online scavenger hunts, and engaging in online presentations, my students will be presented with material that reinforce their learning. I teach a lot of students who have been identified as needing special education services or who are English language learners. Technology and differentiation in instruction would help my students tackle difficult material in a plethora of different ways. In addition, my ELL students would benefit from the various resources available online for English language learners in the subject of history (i.e BrainPop, iCivics, etc). I am requesting four Chromebook laptops to be used as a technology station in the classroom. Students will use these laptops in small groups on a weekly basis.
