I teach at a suburban school in the Seattle area. While considered an affluent area, our students run the range of all socio economic levels. We have about 25% on free and reduced lunch. In addition, as an ELL (English-language teacher) in addition to being a science teacher, I have a high number of non-native English speakers in my classes who need access to materials in their native languages or at different reading levels. My goal is to make science understandable, relevant, and enjoyable for all of my students. It will take a diverse globally-minded community of future scientists to solve some of the challenges we are facing and will face as a society.
