Literature Based Art Education
Funded Aug 24, 2014Every time a student walks into our classroom they are excited about the endless possibilities at their fingertips. Daily I hear a student proclaiming how much they love art class and that, in part, is due to your generous donations.
My students love combining literature and art. We use art as a medium to make predictions, visualize, draw conclusions and determine possible solutions for our characters. Students are able to imitate the style of the illustrators or create a style that is all their own which furthers their understanding of literature and their own artistic style.
Each day and each class takes us on a new adventure through literature, art history and our own imaginations. When students feels confident and supported in one aspect of their lives and their education the benefits spill over into every other area. In the age of standardized testing for 4 year olds and teacher appraisals that cover content but don't rate our commitment and compassion for our kids or our deep understanding of what it takes to make a whole and happy kid it is easy to let things like creativity fall to the wayside. That said, it's people like you that remember what it's like to be a child and how important imagination and creativity are to our development that keep my spirits up.
I am so lucky to have these amazing students (all 1,002 of them!) and you to travel on this artistic journey together. We thank you for your support from the bottom of our hearts.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Miller

Funded Feb 11, 2013Thank you so much for the generous gifts you have given our classroom by providing us with this easel. We use the easel everyday for whole group instruction during phonics, reading comprehension, language arts and vocabulary. Additionally students use it every day to work in our spelling center.
This easel has changed the way our classroom runs. We are able to write on the white board surface, hang up pictures and worksheets on the magnetic surface, store manipulatives and games for center time, create and store anchor charts for students to refer to later, easily access our individual white boards and markers and lastly hang up our workstations chart which tells the students which workstation they need to be at during center time. Before we had our easel all of this was scattered all over our room but now the easel has become a command center for our classroom. We literally could not function without it!
Our school is working hard to provide students with everything they need to be successful in their academic careers and because of your generosity we have all helped students achieve at the highest level.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Miller
