• Comfort in the Classroom...2.0

  Coming into a classroom, any classroom, can be a daunting task as it is. I recall as a high schooler walking into my classrooms and all the desks were in rows and the environment was very sterile. This was even harder to handle when the subject was one that I disliked. This recollection is what brought me to create this Donors Choose.

  Students tend to be more engaged, relaxed and just happier when they have a comfortable and inviting environment. It has become a daily thing where students try to earn access to a "comfy chair". They fully embraced the materials and often suggest I get rid of all the desks and just have alternative seating. Nice try....

  Without your donations, my students would not feel as welcomed and relaxed, which in turn creates a stronger learning environment. Thank you so much from myself and my students.”

• English I Honors Takes a Walk in the Woods

  Funded Sep 27, 2021

  This book had us exploring ideas, concepts and places we would have never thought of before. We had no idea going into it how humorous, emotional, and irritated this book would make us. We found ourselves learning about nature in ways we didn't know we cared to. We went for nature walks and wound up writing poetry inspired by its beauty.

  Pie became a topic of conversation mid-novel and we took part in a "pie day" where we shared a variety of pies and talked and laughed. Almost a year later and this is still a memory we talk about.

  As a culminating activity students were challenged to walk in nature and find her beauty. They first became photographers and then poets.

  Although the road wasn't always smooth, it was a journey that will never be forgotten.

• Get Lit...in AP Lit! Part Two

  AP English is not for everyone; it demands a lot of time, energy and patience. So when a group of students come to class and want to learn and be engaged I will go above and beyond to inspire that.

  The books I ordered for my AP students have been received with very welcome arms. They are reading texts they never thought they would be able to read and what's more, they are enjoying them!

  Although these books were purchased for a specific class in mind, every single one of my classes has shown interest in these novels. They are excited to take on a challenge and I can see a flicker of competition in their eyes.

  Books open many doors. My students are on the adventure of their high school lives.”
